In our group we have a 9 man, 4 man, 2 3man and a toilet tent. All arriving on Wednesday on coaches from different places and in separate cars.

One of the group (travelling by coach without a large tent) wants oxylers. Whats the feasibility of us all being able to get in there?

If Oxylers is out where's the best place to get a large group to camp together but as close to the action as possible?

Big Ground / Kidney Mead, been there since 2005 which is a nice balance for everyone one in the group, and where people want to spend their time.

We tried in 2013 to camp in Pennard's Hill but a combination of things meant we didn't have a decent space which was annoying and I think we are all pretty happy with where we now pitch up.

I have quite a simple approach to camp area:

i just sleep there, spend about an hour or 2 the morning having a sit down and checking what's on for the day. Pack a bag and I'm off at midday.

Which is why I have been in South Park for the last 3 years. Dead quiet at night, space, fairly easy to walk back from the se corner along railroad.

A toilet tent is disgusting, just use the facilities provided.

The girls in the group swear by it. Not something I've used personally.

As long as they aren't peeing on the ground and disposing of it properly daily I don't see how it would be disgusting.  Especially since many people use travel John's and pee in their tents (which is a lot grosser imo)

I've always found Pennards to be over rated, camped there a few times but it's always been heaving and not worth the hassle. Dragon Field was ace but I don't think it's there any more.

Paines would be my choice, similar to Pennards in terms of location but not as busy.

Our usual spot is Bushy Ground/Rivermead but this year I've got two seperate groups going - a couple of friends in one group and family in the other. I'm hoping to get everyone camped together which would mean family camping as the family group have two kids in the party but we'll see.

I'll likely camp with friends in Bushy/Rivermead if they don't fancy family camping. Friends are pretty chilled and like the quiet fields though so I reckon they'll be fine with Wicket Ground.

Camped in oxylers and lower mead in the past. Enjoyed both for different reasons.

Thinking park home this year. Should be getting to site fairly early wouldn't have thought any later than 10am Wednesday. Anyone a regular there care to share what sort of atmosphere it is there and likelihood of getting a space. Only one tent so Should be fine in most places

Hi Pork. We camp in Park Home every year. Normally 20+ of us there by 10am and we can all fit in together. Beautiful location - near the path (milk + SE corner returns), 2 sets of loos, & The Park is very accessible. Basically because I spend most of my time flitting between the Park and the rest, I can pick a couple of tins up every couple hours without having to take much of a detour. Crowd is good - most people stay out late because of Arcadia - not as young or crowded as Pennards, but just as good in terms of location imo. It's the sort of place you could squeeze a 2 man in on Thursday morning for your friends that are on the coach, or whatever.

Exactly. It's a proper chemical toilet in a small high tent designed for its purpose. Can't see how it's disgusting.

If I'm in Oxylers I'm going to figure out which one and give it a go. I hope I don't wee on anyone's bed.

Would like to try somewhere new, thinking the area between Dairy Ground and Paines Ground. It doesn't seem to have a name on the map. Does nayone have exp of that place?

I believe the part your referring to would also be Paines. That's the bit I camped in last year. Everything was good...we were out all night and had no problems sleeping. Seemed like a good central jumping off point and may camp there again this year.

Thanks, it looks like a good spot to me too, short walk to Other, Park and Arcadia, but far enough from anything that loud so could get a good sleep. Shouldn't be full by Wed afternoon either which will be good for us

What are those 2 areas like for things like toilets/noise/people. Camped in Woodsies for 2 years then Darbie last year. Coming along by car this year so can get in early Wednesday 11am-12pm. What are our chances for 2 medium sized tents?

Cooking  brekki on my stove for the family one morning i (guessed) the tent right next to me was being used as a loo. This is totally gross.Theres no other way to put it.I decide not to mention it to the rest of my group as I knew it would spoil thier food.

not too sure where to camp this time. My group were in Lower Mead in 2014 and 15 and then Rivermead last year as we arrived on the thursday and heard there was loads of room there. It was a good campsite but didnt spend any time in Silver Hayes and it felt pretty far from the Park/WH where we spent most of our time.

Will be looking for somewhere new to camp this year :D

We arrived around 5 or 6pm weds last year and found a spot for 2 tents without much looking, but I would say the feild was 75% full so it wouldn't be easy for a group but otherwise defitely spots!

Hi guys, some advice on Big Ground and Kidney Mead please, We have been going as a group for donkeys years as some of you know but have always camped over in Dairy, due to some of our group camping in the Cocksmill Meadow Family camping field we want to be close to them this year to save them the long walk back at the end of the night after the campfire.

So, how quickly does Big Ground and Kidney Mead fill up please, I am hoping to be in the queue for PG B by 06:00 at the latest but you all know how plans on a Wed morning work out  We need a space for about 12 tents, about 7/8 of which I will be setting up on my own on arrival :(

Thanks all.

You'll probably be OK, but the biggest variable there is Gate B - when it works it's fine, but it does seem to be more susceptible to issues than the others.

First timer here. I think I will camp in Darble or Pylon Ground. I'm a light sleeper, so I'm hoping it might be a little bit quieter here. I don't mind walking back at night. Also coming & going by National Express so it's nice and close to the drop off point.

Anyone camped here before? Any major Pros/Cons?

Camped in Pylon in 2015 purely because my coach got in pretty late and there was loads of room. The big plus is that it is roomy, it's quiet and relaxed. The cons... hmm I'm nitpicking here, not much of a view and it is a fair walk back from the SE corner at night. Although for me a pleasant 40 minute walk back from the South in the early hours is actually pretty cool. Not the most fashionable campsite but I'd recommend it. Also it's perfect for the coach you can set up straight away then only a short walk back at the end of the festival.

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.
