2019 Headliners

Optimistic view:  a genuinely exciting rock'n'roll band could spring from nowhere and be so fundamentally, undeniably good that they claim a headline spot on the basis on an album and a couple of EPs.  They reset the clock on the current death spiral that rock music finds itself in and unlock a whole new world of possibilities.

Everybody is happy, festival strength cider all round.

But they've been under our noses all along!

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Catfish and the Bottlemen

I'm talking about a band that could out-Catfish Catfish, and put the Bottle back in Bottlemen.

Billy Bibby and the lads could headline one of the other nights.  Wouldn't want to miss out on the [insert song title here] hitmakers making their Pyramid debut.

After their previous two shots at headlining being anything other than spectacular it'd be pretty disappointing if Arctic Monkeys are 2019's 'biggie' headliner. I fully expect them to return to headline again, but christ, don't have them as the main attraction. Feels weird that they're not longer considered a 'new headliner' and that the likes of The 1975 will undoubtedly soon be taking that mantle.

Hope they can convince some of the big boys on the metaphorical 'list' to headline soon before they retire or die or all we're gonna be left with is Coldplay.

I think Taylor Swift's demands and prices mean she probably won't ever do it

i don't think it's necessary for her to do it unless her career has an unexpected nose dive

However, I imagine she's fully on Glastonbury's radar

The headliner they're talking to ahead of the 50th anniversary must be:

I have no reason to think this at all but my guess for 2020 will be three huge acts who are a staple to Glastonbury history - and would probably do it again if they were begged / asked

Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, Blur

until something else come along that's my shout

To be teeing someone up that far in advance they'd need to be

Coldplay have done it too recently and there's no guarantee that the Stones would be on the road.

Blur fit the bill in being friends of the Eavii and purveyors of a suitably iconic performance to the extent that a return would be a big-ish deal.

If Radiohead weren't doing it this year they'd also be a shout....but they are so they aren't.

Aren't the Rolling Stones kinda always on the road in some shape or form?

i think they've not got anything booked for 2017 - say they have 2 years off two years on (as they tend to do) that would make them about in 2020

Providing that's what they are doing lol all speculation

I also feel like they would do it again if the circumstances were right

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
