... oh yes ... and pre-invention of the wellington boot by the looks of it.

In all fairness nobody saw it coming. I was gouged to the tune of 30 notes for wellies two sizes too small that morning. It was either that or lose my toes.

Not in any way trying to put anyone off as this was pre-mulit-million pound drainage installation, but to answer your question, yes it could be very very much worse ........

In fairness that flooding only happened in a microscopic part of the site, and by the sunday we were all sat down on the grass getting sunburned.

This year was much worse.

If you were camped down the bottom of Pennards and carried on for the rest of the weekend I salute you.  We were up in Michael's Mead so not too bad, good job as I only had an old pair of trainers and flip flops for the weekend.  Ludicrous downpour though, I remember it being baking hot the rest of the weekend, much like the forecast promised.

For the few people caught out yes, but for the rest of one, one day of inconvenience.

EDIT: By caught out, I mean camped in the flood areas.

The poor bastards caught in the flood at the bottom of Pennards were totally sahfted yes, but I would say that it was more than a days inconvenience.  Even people not camped in the flood got their stuff soaked due to cheap, not very waterproof tents, some of my mates included.  Most of the lower areas of the site were flooded all weekend.  A lot of the traders were inaccessible for most people all weekend.

As far as I remember it didn't rain for the rest of the weekend though so not in 2007/1998 league of infamous weekends. I didn't go this year so can't comment but from what I've seen it looks pretty muddy but reasonably sunny most of the weekend. A pain not being able to sit down and all that but not a wash out by any means, no?

I was camped at the top of Pennards, but still had to walk through thatevery morning and evening. I do recall standing water everywhere else on site though.

Think you may be romanticising the past there a bit chief. Sun was shining on Sunday yeah but parts of the site were impassable for the entire weekend. The Other for example was a shitty mess right up until Monday. The real bad mud, like the worst around some of the markets this year.

Pyramid Field too. As per, 5.30 below. This is from Sunday night. No mans lands everywhere.

What a tune, what a gig, thanks for sharing that ..... loved it at the time, just wish I could remember more of it, think I was pretty Gillespied at the time.

I was sober and thankfully will never forget this. The reason I remember the mud is because I was standing in a huge pile of shit on the right. Laughing my head off.

Top drawer banter from Mr Gillespie there ... "you should have been there 15 years ago you lazy bastards" legend.

Pre-match interview worth watching if you haven't .....

That gig made it into my all time Glasto top 5. The whole thing was incredible. You probably wouldn't see any of the current lot doing something like that at a prestigious Glasto slot these days.

I just know that the year I take off will be the one that Eavis convinces The Smiths and Led Zep to both reform and finally books Radiohead.

you have FOMO (fear of missing out)

i said last year I am not going, but then had to as i couldn't miss out my mates and maybe it would be sunny, and maybe Radio Head would play.

alas it was muddy and they didn't, but next year they might and it might be sunny and I might find my charity bin

wernt Primal scream the ones who left mid set swearing at the crowd? What year was that?

Can't really remember too much now but in 2013 when subbing the Stones Bobby Gillespie looked absolutely out of his nut. Or is that generally his look these days?

It definitely wasn't that year as I wasn't there the Stone year must have been before then

Ah that makes sense as I don't recall Primal Scream leaving mid set. Although mentally Gillespie looked like he may well have checked out before he even started!

Gillespie was in fine form in 11, gave a cracking performance and really loved it, came back the following fest in 13 and was a mardy old tart for the whole gig.  Exactly the kind of statistic that he's known for, really, one night an amazing performance, the next a parody act, some might say it is worth seeing both.

I'd still see the Primals over almost anyone, even if it's one of his stroppy days, because when they bring it there are few acts out there that can compete and if that means risking watching a grown man have a tantrum then I'll take that bet.

Will I be back next year? Yes. Yes I will. Ticket day and work schedule permitting...

Last saw them a couple of years ago at Kendal Calling and I seem to remember having an amazing time. Country Girl always makes me feel very happy.

I believe Bobby G is stone cold sober and abstaining these days...isn't he?

Although I do fondly recall an interview in the excellent Select magazine in the 90s (all now available to read online) in which he was asked a question, started answering, went on the nod for 20 mins then woke up and continued answering exactly where he left off.

Skillz.

Can't make next year.  Close family member has selfishly chosen the Glastonbury weekend for their wedding! 52 weekends to choose from and they pick this one.  Only consolation is that it's in Kos.

I think I'd be telling close family member to not expect me there!!! Kos over Glastonbury??!!! Really! Do they know you at all?

Well...I won't be there next year either now. Very early days but 2 positive tests are saying I will have a big responsibility on my hands next year for the first time. I can't tell you how glad I am that I went this year now. I'm really going to miss the place for the time I spend away from it. It almost feels like fate (even though I don't believe in all that stuff) that I ended up getting a ticket in April, when I had accepted defeat in October.

So my question is - What age would you say is an acceptable age to take a child to Glastonbury? I have absolutely no idea, but I couldn't imagine taking one when they were only a couple of years old. Maybe it would be easier if I went with friends with kids next time instead so we can take turns I suppose. Fucking hell man

Took my daughter at 8 months old.

Totally do-able as long as you understand that you will have a very different festival. Loads more to discover there with kids, enjoy it and make the most of it.

My kids are now in their teens and starting to go their own way at festivals leaving me and the mrs to return to our bad old ways a little!

But, you know what, best times were with the kids, and I have a LOT to compare it to!
