I wonder if there's any chance of an acoustic secret set somewhere. Probably very slim but here's hoping.

doesn't look to be much room for any secret sets of this calibre this year. the only one we had was Travis and they've been officially announced today. seems they may be trying to stop them all together - probably due to ever increasing expectations

Its not a lot really to expect bands like the Stone Roses and Radiohead is it? I mean Radiohead only played to tiny crowds recently in London and the Roses are only playing to 1500 tonight in Carlisle of all places..

I like Arctic Monkeys, and I like it whenever Miles Kane comes on and does 505 with them. But for whatever reason I can't get interested in TLSP.

I'll be front centre for Wolf Alice and Madness, so may stick around out of curiosity. But I'll most likely wander off to watch John Grant.

The album has revealed itself as one of my favourites of the year and I'm really looking forward to it.

I just hope they don't suffer too much from Pyramid-syndrome.  I've seen a few acts on the Pyramid who get huge crowds of people because of their name or time they're on but have no interest in actually watching the act and so talk all over it.  Particular Pyramid disasters for me have been Vampire Weekend, Fleet Foxes, Jack White and Kanye West.

I'm going to have to try and get myself into a decent position for this one.

I was tempted to catch these at Glasto, particularly as there's some good tracks on their latest album, but after watching them on Jools last week I'm going to avoid them. Whatshisface from them there Arctic Monkeys is too irritating for words.

i don't think the crowd can be blamed for Jack White being a disaster. that lies on Jack's shoulders (or up his nose)

as for TLSP, i can kind of see the crowd going that way but yeah... deep enough in to the crowd and it shouldn't be too bad, although any act on in the run up to Adele was always going to suffer a less than great Pyramid crowd

Saw them at Radio 1 Big Weekend and not impressed. Same with Arctic Monkeys - love the music, not impressed live. Alex Turner can't seem to help himself from playing to the camera rather than the crowd and the best view is often watching the screen rather than the band.

Major eye roll over here right now. God forbid a man might be camp.

i don't have a problem with their act, but that's all it is... an act. neither Turner nor Kane show any signs of being camp outside of TLSP. it's a persona they've chosen to use for the band, so if people have a problem with it then fair enough!

Act or no act, derision of that kind of characteristic as being cringe worthy only shames those of us that have been called it our whole lives (FWIW I'm gay too). Fair if people don't like them for putting on an act though but I'd like to think we're better than shaming campness (whatever that even is in 2016, anyway) :)

don't think i've listened to Humbug since their shit Leeds Fest performance in 2009! keep seeing people singing it's praise and meaning to go back to it

That was possibly the worst festival performance I've ever seen

Seen them do a little secret set when they released there 1st album at Glastonbury, Jack White came out and do one with them as well. Watched them in the Apollo in Manchester 1st album, musically they are fantastic. Can't wait to see them again this year!

AT is a bit of dick the way he's lost that northern accent and replaced it with a slow American twang. I still can't help and like the guy though and in my eyes he's a lyrical genius.

Fantastic new album, my favourite of the year so far. Seen Arctic Monkeys live a couple of times and never feel let down after it, and saw Miles in Cardiff a few years ago, and the sound was just great, small venue so I think that helped. So very much looking forward to their set :D

In terms of the 'Cringe' I can see where people are coming from, but think it's either you love it or you hate it type thing (with a lot of people on here seemingly hating it). I personally think Turner is a cool character.

It's nothing to do with them being camp for me (tbh I hadn't even noticed that), it's the fact that they both think they're hilarious. they really aren't. and they seem to have the expectation that everyone should find them funny. bore off.

Just can't bear AT's public persona anymore.

Such a shame, as he had the potential to be a genuine great. Sadly for me, the music has mirrored his (public, at least) personal transition. Lumpen, tuneless Josh Homme wannabe dirge replaces cutting, insightful kitchen-sink northern genius. I have zero interest in AMs anymore, and TLSP are just a poor cousin even to that.

Sorry to be a bit down on them, people!

I've had a great day, as it happens!

:)

Out of curiosity, when was the last time you listened to an AM or LSP record? Humbug was the last/only Monkey's record that you could say had Josh Homme, desert rock sound. Lyrically I think he's improved 10 fold since the early days. He could hardly go on writing about fights taxi ranks and pulling girls in white nightclubs forever could he?

Now, admittedly, I'm a bit of an Arctic Monkey's fan boy, but there's a few songs on the new LSP record that are some of the best he's written.
