Charging my phone

I run a website for a living, so being able to log into the admin, answer emails, let customers know their orders are going to be a couple of days late etc etc is all pretty important.

I don't spend the entire time on my phone don't get me wrong, but 20 minutes of sorting the real world out each morning with a coffee is a must for me

Exactly this.
I'd love to totally leave it all behind, and I've pretty much set expectations with my clients to expect bugger all during Glastonbury week - but I find I can completely relax for the day having dealt with the real world for 20 mins in the morning.

Im the same , I switch on the data roaming for 20mins whilst in the sleeping bag in the morning , check the sport , emails and efests , has absolutely no effect on my enjoyment of the festival then the rest of the day is party time (except when im on the long drops , its not easy to party then !!)

Yeah while I totally get the "I want to be shut off from everything else for five days" approach, some people actually like the outside world and even (shock) what they do for a living.

I'm not really one of them, but when you see here people who want to spend half an hour a day dealing with work stuff because they love and care about their job... can't help but think they've figured out the Glastonbury spirit in their lives far better than those who shut it all off because they need to be free for just five days a year.

Luckily I'm past the needing to keep in daily touch with work stage of my life.

I'm in the "Take my sensible head off for a week and relax" group but accept that Mrs GH, who will be home alone, will probably appreciate a call or two.

Everyone I work with/for knows that for Glastonbury week I'm unavailable.

So a couple of calls a day at most.  No need to use the phone to contact others in our gang at Glastonbury as we just arrange periodic meet ups through the day.

I use one of the battery pack thingys and it lasts me the whole weekend, even left my phone on charge accidentally overnight once last year and the battery pack still lasted out the festival.  That's the second time I've taken it and it's been very useful, wouldn't stand in one of those charge tent anymore. Second best thing I bought for a festival after a blow up mattress which I took for the first time last year!  An age thing I reckon!

Different circumstances for everyone with regards to the phone I think, staying in touch with family, taking photos, work, checking on a puppy! etc etc. Personally I do tend to use it a lot less when at the festival as there is so much going on that I forget to check it.

I was with you until you implied that people who want to unplug for a few days don't have 'Glastonbury spirit' in their everyday lives.

Everyone want to do the festival differently. That's fine.

Very true stu.

Those folks who are assuming that whether I use my phone or not is what makes me a twat are clearly very wrong, as I was like that long before mobeys.

Will there be a place this year where you can charge your phones? However the queues were always quite painful.

If not, is anybody able to recommend a reliable power bar I could use which would keep my phone topped up?

Thanks

In this day and age its pointless, battery packs are so cheap now. I take 3 random little ones i've aquired over the years that are good for 1/2-1 charge and then one big bastard which is a cheap Chinese ebay one which claims to be 50000amh but thats bullshit however i can get 3 full charges off it, i think it was like £15. I have a iPhone 6 and use it for photos and the line up app while I'm there so it rinse's the battery.

How much you use your phone at Glastonbury essentially comes down to how narcissistic you are. Whether you're interesting in actually enjoying yourself, or just showing off to your friends and followers about how much fun you appear to be having.

Or if you are at Glastonbury with friends and want to keep in regular contact with your husband and young children by phone. I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy myself plenty, even more so if I'm able to phone my kids and exchange photos with them. Phones aren't just about duck pouts.

Was coming on here to ask for advice on what power bar to buy because I'm pretty oblivious, but having read the thread I think I'm just going to go for a 20000 mAh Anker rather than risking anything cheaper. Please someone reassure me that this is the correct decision!

Though this Aukey one is certainly tempting:https://www.amazon.co.uk/20000mAh-Portable-External-Battery-Motorola/dp/B00SR5N5HU/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1462908832&sr=1-1&keywords=aukey&tag=efestivals-21

Ankers are a safe bet, got a few at our house that have done a year+ no problem.

This is cheaper, and got great reviews. Same amount of charges as the Anker... http://amzn.to/1UaOGdS
