Strategic Camping Location

And the entire campsite smells of piss and shit.

2010 by the Saturday it was eye watering just passing.  I reckon it has the highest density of shit tents in the festival :P

I camped there in 2000, was a good friendly crowd around us, no trouble at all and probably the most convenient location I've ever enjoyed.  Every year I seem to camp further and further out, only way I'll manage that this year is if I kip in the car parks.

Hoping to be back in Darble this year with Thurlow and co.

A word of warning for anyone thinking that camping in the family field guarantees you more security and a better night's sleep. In 2013 I pitched up with my friend's family in Cockmill Meadow. Very quiet getting in at 4/5am but as soon as the sun rises, so do the families...and their kids. Surviving five days on ten hours sleep is an experience. And it's not immune to thieves either. Numerous camps had stuff stolen over the weekend

Children do not respect a hangover / come down. and they rise with the sun and are noisy. much prefer loads of noise at night and quite mornings. Unless you camp next to us then I apologiuse in advance as there seem to be something going 24 / 7 .

we normally make friends with our neighbours

In the tipi field this year, but have camped in Oxlyers the last 3 years. It's one of the most central camping spot, able to watch The Other Stage from your tent, 5 minute walk to Silver Hayes & Arcadia, straight walk on the railway line to SE Corner. Busy but not as packed as Pennards, should be able to manage a small camps items for chairs etc if your in a large group and close enough to most things not to worry about going back the tent for supplies

There are stewards at the main entrances to Cockmill who do check if you have children with you as we have got stopped trying to cut through there on a weds. It's mainly filled up by weds pm now with families.

Thank you.   The kids are arriving Wednesday night. We are aiming to get there in the morning to set up.  I'm hopefull that the stewards will be ok with that :-)

Normally camp in Woodsies as it's not miles from the car park and I don't mind the walk to stages. Usually get a nice little camp setup next to the fence for crew camping. No idea about this year as the JP tent is moving, waiting for the new map before making any decisions!

Coming down from t'north, stopping Tuesday night at Wookey Hole Hotel. This means we should be in the car parks bloody early I hope!

Initial plans are for Cockmill as the other half is not a night bird and as soon as it's daylight she'll be awake!

not been for years and only Gate A was available then, it looks though Gate B is best now and it cuts out the trek down through the campers and back up past the Acoustic stage.

Whats the the best route to sneak to the car parks from Wookey or are they likely to ship us out to the A37 and back in on the blue route?

as far as I can possibly be from the Pyramid

As close as I can be, because that side of the site is actually fairly quiet at night, so while it's a trek to most places I can get some zzzzzzz! Plus Babylon for breakfast :)

We accidentally camped in family camping one year, near the kids field - it was genuine, were aiming for Kidney Mead but it was full, and a campsite crew person pointed us to a bit of space near some toilets, a lock up & food stall.  Only when we'd pitched and asked where we actually were did we find out!  I felt quite bad about it, but we were good camp neighbours and kept quiet.  I doubt anyone with children would have fitted into our space anyway, but still, I wouldn't do it again.  And yeah, while most people are trying to sleep in the morning, children are very much awake!!

Considering Pylon this year if I sort a ticket, and due to possibly not getting in until 4-5pm on Wednesday. I've read it should be good for getting a spot, is it fine for if you get quite a bit of rain? I'm only used to Lower Mead, and it's been fine most years there, except 2011 when a lot of the bottom of the field was a swamp (luckily my tent just avoided it).

This is an incredibly subjective question and I understand it will differ from person to person but what are traditionally the most popular fields to camp? It sounds to me that Pennard Hill Ground, Oxylers, Kidney Mead are up there but would be interesting to know what people think i.e. top 5. Actually a better question might be what sort of time do these popular fields usually fill up on Wednesday? Again, a very subjective question.

I've only been twice - in 2013 I camped in Oxylers (by the railway track where the compost toilets were last year) and last year on the north end of the Park Home Ground which we were really lucky to get considering we arrived around 12ish. Loved both spots although they're probably only 30 metres apart! I'm due to arrive around 7:30am this year. Is that too late for certain fields?

Great little spot wasn't it?! Some of our group decided to camp there regardless last year. My nose/stomach couldn't handle it!

I camp in Bushy Ground. It's not too far from Gate A when we arrive/leave, it's spacious, quiet and has compost toilets.

It takes about 5 minutes to get to the Other Stage.

There's only two downsides for me. When Silver Hayes has someone massive on, it's quite difficult to get through the crowds to/from the tent and my favourite areas are circus, green futures etc so it's a bit of a trek at times, but I'd rather that than a long trek with my rucksack and tent when I arrive/leave.

Keep em coming guys!

My first year - I want to show off in front of my pals and pretend I know all the cool places to camp

we head for big ground.... great views, close to gate b or c, flushing toilets at the top of the hill... seems quite central for getting around

I'm a big fan of lime kiln, have camped in the same spot by the fence for the last 3 years - nice and quiet with great vistas over the site. The hike back from SE corner at 3 in the morning is tough though (good for sobering up if that's an aim), and with it being on a slope you can end up in a ball in the corner of your tent come the morning.

Have been in Bushy last couple of years.... It's fine for me, but would second the Silver Hayes congestion warning. Was trying to get back to tent earlyish on Sat 2014 - think Fatboy was in SH, nothing was moving, so we ended up going the l-o-o-o-ng way round (on the slippiest path EVAH). It was long; it was slippy.

I'd personally say go for Oxlyers. Definitely a party atmosphere due to it's central location. Mean it's easy to get to everywhere. Personally I've always found it quite chill late at night as most of the party goers are in the south east corner or dance village rather than at their tents. Maybe opt for a bit more towards the railway track side as the opposite end is close to silver hayes which can be quite loud. Tis my advice anyway :)

I camp in Bushy. When I walk back I always go the route from Pyramid stage, past Beat Hotel and then on to Bushy. But in the morning when I go off for the day, I always walk the Silver Hayes route. Not sure why I do this but have to say, walking back at night, I have never got caught up in any big crowds. Will definitely be camping there again this year. My Pennards days were fun but long gone now!

Everywhere has theft, not everywhere has Glastonative children up at 6.30am. Well said.

I'll be there again in June bringing my own feral brood once more.
