'woman immediately turns away from pissed up scottie.'

'radiohead are playing glastonbury' would be way down my list of reasons that this would happen.

you're off my xmas card list and no mistake

Hmmmm .....

While I arrive at much the same conclusion as you, there is a reason why he might mention them - as an Oxford band after he mentions "The" Foals are from Oxford.

But, to me, it appears to be more about who's playing this year than the Oxford connection, so who knows.

is Skepta from Oxford?

Not sure if you're joking or not, but he's from naaarf laaandan. :P

If Eavis was throwing out Oxford bands then why mention Skepta - was that I was getting at - I wondered if he had some connection to Oxford. Hence me asking

Yeah that's what confused me about it all. He names two acts from Oxford, three which aren't...and 4 of the acts are playing Glastonbury and one isn't. Very strange!

The way he talks about RH again later on would be an even weirder thing to do if they aren't playing this year. Why go on about them so much? As a rule you'd say only talk about bands that are on the bill, surely.

Yeah mentioning those two was unrelated to the Oxford connection between RH and Foals. I think he had written down some acts young students might know. i.e Foals, Disclosure, Skepta, and then when he said Foals were from Oxford he thought to mention Radiohead too. He probably never planned to mention RH, where as he had the other 3 written down.

Also , great power-stance at the end.

Disclosure can be classed as from Oxfordshire (apparently), as are Foals, and Radiohead - i think as i say he meant Stormzy - that would make sense.

my thoughts entirely on my take on the video - that RH are playing. I had no idea Skepta was even from Tottenham but I knew he wasn't from Oxford. No need to mention him at all  if only talking about Oxford bands.

But Stormzy is from London isn't he?

So confused.

Just a thought - and it's probably me being over analytical. Neil previously mentioned that he'd heard rumours that R&L had booked Radiohead but had problems and they dropped out. What if that had something to do with the fact that Glasto had Foals/Disclosure and T in the Park had RHCP, so Radiohead would have been their only exclusive booking. Therefore if Glastonbury managed to get Radiohead too that takes away an exclusivity that R&L already had, which is why now FOB & Biffy are coheadlining too.

This crossed my mind - can't have Glastonbury nicking 3 of your headliners in non-headliner spots. May just be a coinsidence, and tbh I'm unsure whether to believe that Radiohead were booked for R/L - they didn't do great in 2009 and they were touring a pretty pop (by their standards) album then. Can't imagine the new material would go down well with the LADS, or that they'd do another greatest hits-esque set

there's all sorts of different angles around why RH might have pulled out from doing R/L ... but the first problem there is, I've not been able to verify if it ever actuially happened. I was told that it had, but what I was told was said to be 'gossip' rather than anything certain.

I've had a further go at trying to find out if it's true recently, but without any luck.

he wasn't talking about Oxford bands in particular.

he mentions Underworld playing the festival. the guy hasn't heard of them. then he mentions Foals and says they're from Oxford as maybe the lad would know them , it being Oxford Uni (can't hear the lad's response). then he mentions Radiohead are from Oxford too as maybe the lad has heard of them, being a pretty big band (to audience chuckles). then he goes on to mention 2 other acts on the lineup.

the fact that the guy hadn't heard of Underworld makes it quite possible that he said he hadn't heard of Foals either.

if it was in Leicester Uni and they had a prominent Leicester band on the bill,  he might have named another big band from Leicester if he was aware of one.

it really isn't that complicated, I have no idea how people are getting confused by this.

I see what you mean, say it was the year Kasabian headlined and the student hadn't heard of them he might've then mentioned...
