Really hoping this comes to pass, the collaborators he has on the new albums are popular enough territory that he'd find new fans.

 

Of course he could do something really epic and at the scale he hasn't been able to do for a while.  Imagine even just for 1 track, just 10 minutes, synchronising all the stages, all the lighting, Arcadia, Block 9 lasers, projections and screens across the entire site with fireworks bringing everyone on the site together for the same musical experience.

that's the thing - he's known for his big extravagant shows so it would be headliner or nothing, I reckon.

I expect you're right looking at those numbers (3.5 million in Moscow!!), but I just can't see it.

 

I know it makes sense, and he's clearly a big enough artist to do it, but would it 'fit' a Glastonbury headlne profile? After all, they have been getting more and more mainstream over recent years.

Well, they talk about suitable headliners being hard to get, and he does (in many ways, tho not all) fit as being a suitable headliner.

 

As I said, I could see it happening, tho I also think it's unlikely.

If this did go ahead it'd be a masterstroke booking. I can imagine the message it'd send to all the other big festivals in the UK who plonk on the same headliners each year and are too afraid to take risks.

I was just about in my mum's stomach for his Docklands gig!

 

I'd be all over this, I'd imagine Glasto would allow him to pull out all the stops if they did book him?

 

Maybe they could get away with a short but spectacular show after the "headliner"? Having a smaller than usual headliner on early or something to please the masses?

Doesn't even need to be especially short to be honest - having an act play after the headliner has been done before, it could happen again.

First festival I ever went to was headlined by the Stereophonics (back when they were at their peak), then Faithless came on afterwards to close the show.

shouldn't the biggest festival be having the biggest acts in the world as headliners?  If Prince is relevant today as a headliner, then why not JMJ?

I'm not sat here thinking they should be booking him, but at the same time I don't see why they shouldn't if they want him. There's plenty of acts that have headlined whose 'big' time was decades before they headlined, and JMJ ticks pretty much all of the same boxes.

To put on the type of spectacular show he did at Docklands, Paris and Egypt, wouldn't his team need several days to set everything up? That would be difficult to do when the festival itself is being created around them. It would be great if it happens but I doubt it will somehow.

Yeah, this is more or less what I'm thinking. Part of Glastonbury's remit, I reckon is to be different, to take a risk, to do the unexpected. This would be met by a certain degree of bewilderment by many, but equally a huge number of people would regard this booking as a proper coup.

 

(personally, I can't stand him, but that's neither here nor there)
