Wasn't sure whether to post this in this thread of Lineup 2016 because I guess it could be relevant to both threads, nevertheless, do you think too much significance is placed upon the size of a R&L headliners? I'm not talking about significance to us, the efests community, as it's pretty evident most of us get at least some enjoyment about predicting who'll play and in what slot, but to the average ticket-buying consumer.

Got talking to plenty of strangers across the weekend who had absolutely no idea who was headlining, but had their must see acts across the weekend. The point kind of got drilled into me on the final night as I went for a wonder  through the arena as Libertines were playing. I saw plenty of people scattered all over the arena and the NME, Dance and Lock Up tents were all completely rammed.. as was the campsites! I was shocked just how many people were already back at camp getting fucked up.

Not sure if my point is coming across to well here and I want to try to be as clear as possible.. but after reading through the content of the thread I've got to ask, if Foals were to headline and be, as some of called it, 'the worst headliner in recent years'.. so what? A strong under card coupled with a variety of strong bookings across other stages seems to be forgotten when considering what sells tickets.

I don't think we are putting too much significance on the size of the headliners and the lineup. Reading took longer to sell out than previous years and Leeds supposedly had a poor turn out. I know people who sold their tickets after that lineup came out because they thought it was weak. Yes there are a lot of people who just go anyway to get fucked up but I think if the headliners got smaller and smaller that Reading would stop selling out.

I don't know if I'm putting my point across well but its the headliners that draw people in - if they headliners get smaller they would need to reduce the ticket price or people will stop coming.

The worst thing about this discussion is that even though most people are playing devil's advocate or discussing the silliness of trying to use some formula to predict headliners Gazza has never got that and will still crow about he was right and everyone else was wrong if Foals aren't headlining next year.

I honestly don't see Foals headlining R+L next year, there is no set formula but to be honest you can sorta tell when someone is there and I just don't think they are yet, solid sub in my mind, for a while I was trying to convince myself they were big enough due to the hype on here.

Not due to any lack of acholades but just because in my mind I can't see it. Debating acholades is stupid,

Most headliners have achieved different levels of success, there's no set thing you have to have done, if every band who did arenas headlined then All Time Low would be headlining which would be horrific

  • 2 weeks later...

Why is it that Rod Stewart plays stadiums while Everything Everything are the support act for a short Foals arena tour. No justice in the world.

Cause they are ok but overall a bit hit and miss.

Wembley is so shit, and so is it being a tuesday! Might give it a miss and went to see what festivals they are at

    • It can take around 30-45 mins to walk from the arena back to the transport hub with the crowds, depending on density. Allow even longer in poor conditions. I don't think you'd need to leave Linkin Park early though, you have at least an hour and 20 minutes to walk to transportation. I certainly wouldn't leave early in your shoes, knowing I can just walk to the airport if needs be (2 mile walk and another 30 - 45 min walk depending on your walking speed and conditions.) Maybe just don't linger too long for the toilet / food after Linkin Park have finished.  It will definitely make sense and all just fall into place on the night, don't worry too much and have a great time. The very worst that can happen is a little extra walking to the Airport Skylink bus stop, as those Skylink busses are 100% 24 hour. 🙂  GFS, ICON and ECMWF are ALL in agreement on the latest runs.... After a mildly moist Weds and Thurs, high Pressure building from Friday... Lets just hope they continue to agree... ☀️☀️☀️
