Why is parking so expensive?

Anyone really know? I assume it's to try and discourage people taking cars to the festival. It's supposedly £35 on the gate this year! Looking around that's compared to £10 at Reading and £20 at Download!

Edit: If I order now are they likely to turn up? I've heard many people complain on here they haven't and my brother is yet to receive his that he ordered with his tickets.

Yep, it is about discouraging people to come in cars - both for the festival's carbon footprint, and for the chaos it causes in the local area.

Other larger festival sites such as Reading, V Chelmsford, and others are well served by major roads, sometime right to the gate.

Whereas Pilton is 15 miles or so from any sizeable dual carriageways or better every direction - and is also twice the size of Reading Festival.

If they can get the traffic levels down they might manage to get the numbers increased, just perhaps.

Discouraging people to come by car is certainly a factor in the licence the festival gets from the Council

Last year on the Sunday I got speaking to some locals in on the day tickets and they said a lot of the fields used for parking aren't owned by the festival and the Eavis family. They therefore charge a high fee for using their land for the festival - some suggestion local landowners make more from that than they do from farming

It's all about money in my opinion. How Many cars, 15-20-30,000, think about it.

Well, it discourages poor people to come by car. They might as well put a "rich people only" banner up on the car park entrance.

It's expensive because an awful lot of people will travel to the festival using their car and so therefore GFL know they can sell the tickets to the car parks for pretty much whatever they want.

£35 on the gate yes but, to be fair, it's £25 in advance. Next year it may be £25 but it won't be long until it's £30 and then £35 in advance and you can bet the rises won't be in line with inflation.

I think the car parking fee is reasonable. But also, the cash goes to the neighbouring farm owners to keep them happy. It wouldn't be good if they objected to the festival. And where would we park if they didn't rent their land out? Be a heck more expensive then I guess?
