Quite normal, but not everyone gets it like that. Lots of people love it but for some it strikes a deeper resonance and you see echoes of it everywhere. As Ez says you fall in love and it can be all consuming

Over the years it wore me down a bit - the run up is much longer than the festival which seemed to flash by. I'd arrive so het up I'd get ruined before i started. Slowly I learnt to keep it to an insistent trickle until the festival is close, let it build to a roar as the gates open until sometime usually thursday it explodes

It's always there though and occasionally it's fun to look behind the floodgates at years of OMFG moments and deeply treasured memories that will make my heart flutter for many many years to come. Roll on the electric twilight and the gathering revellers, the surge of the dancing crowds and the seconds that slow to a near standstill when just then, just there surrounded by the expanse of the festival everything is perfect.

That last paragraph put tears in my eyes! So very true. Thank you

It's the second paragraph that stood out most for me. The Run Up & The Flash By.

Spend weeks after the festival on here wondering why more people aren't on here discussing it.

Ticket day in October. Ecstatic if I get tickets. Thinking how best to get a job there if I don't.

All the build up and rumours and trickles of info.

Then you're there! Wednesday and Thursday seem to crawl and take ages and then the rest just flashes by. It just goes whoosh. Just so much to do and possible places to be. Always have that nagging background feeling that a better part of the party is happening somewhere else.

And you have nailed that moment with the phrase "electric twilight" Coldhands.

Loving this thread. I intend to get back to it.

Obsessed you might say?

As promised ;)

Like so many of you have already said, I'm totally obsessed with Glastonbury. To me it is the best week of the year and I love the run up. The excitement levels are higher than the 5 pervious years this year as I know how lucky we all are to be stepping on the hallowed turf.

I have been doing a daily countdown on my Facebook page since the 50 days to go mark of clips from every year I've been since 2009, driving my mates round the bend! Friends ask me in the street how many days to go !

If I had to go to a addiction meeting about anything it would be about Glastonury. 24 days to go you wonderful people

Im definitely in the obsessed camp. I talk about it constantly, its always in my thoughts, I have such a special connection to the place now. I first went in 1999, I was only 16 and while I enjoyed myself I don't think I was ready for the experience, I just didn't get it all. I went back in 2009 for my stag weekend and just fell in love with the place, I managed to persuade my wife to go there in 2010 for our honeymoon and she fell in love with the place. I took my kids to their first festival there in 2011, aged 2 and 4 at the time, had what felt like a second honeymoon there in 2013. I suffered a blood clot in one of my lungs in 2014 and the only thing that kept my moving forward was the fact that a week after coming off the warfarin I knew Id be back at Glastonbury.

Its one of the only places in the world you can smile at strangers and they'll smile back, you can throw up a high five to a random passer by and they throw one back. Where you can talk to strangers as if you've known them for years. The place just resonates happiness and good feeling for me, the majority of us know we have a golden ticket and that shows in the way we act for those 5 days.

I only got my ticket in the secret resale, first time Ive had to go through the resale route, but all the time from October to a few weeks ago I knew Id be going. I had blind faith, at no point in my minds eye could I picture Glastonbury without me being there.

I didn't have the best festival last year, I wasn't at 100% physically and mentally from being ill leading up to it, and then it didn't quite click for the couple who we went with, their fault really for not being able to let go and throw themselves into the place. To much moaning from them, waiting around and was felt like time wasted. Im glad to say Im a picture of health this year and it might sound cliché but I feel like Ive got unfinished business with the place to make up for last year. I cant wait to get back there with all you glorious people.

Hmm. .

Speaking of dates, does anyone have an inkling of when the sale for 2016 might be?

It's going to be Sunday 4th October, isn't it? In which case I'm scuppered.

I'm thinking the same. Have booked weekend in Dublin and just didn't occur to me. Probably have to go for a coach ticket beforehand.

  • 1 month later...

I'm upset I never got to meet Woffy or go to the efest meet.

Am just about bringing myself around to watching the iPlayer recordings.

Tick tock until October, resale day, end of June, hopefully I'll be there.

Lol I know but won't have a device other than phone so won't be very easy, that was what I meant.

Joke!

One of our group is the ticket master and always scores on his phone. So stay positive! They should have a PC you can use at te hotel you're in.

last t-day i was in Buenos Aires, with only a crappy phone and crappier tablet.  but then the hotel wifi didn't work anyway, rendering them totally useless.  so 5am local time i was sat in the hotel foyer, to the bemusement of reception and the cleaner, hammering f5 on one of the communal pcs.

didn't even get a sniff.

It really does take over atleast three times a year in a big way, not including the festival..

When the main bulk of us get together atleast once a week, it is always topic of conversation, even at Christmas haha
