Anyone ever camp at Holts back in the day? I'm sure there was a small part by Jazz/World for camping. By god that would be an ace place to be setup. Probably wouldn't get much sleep.

Once all that was open for camping and it was mayhem down that way of a night time, fair play to the haggard souls who managed to camp in amongst it. In recent years they gnawed away at it until it was all gone (Pennards beware, the same is happening there). The place where I first camped at Glastonbury is no longer available either, back before fields had names like they do today.

Spitfire do you know how to get to Hitchin Hill from gate A? Do you go through Woodsies and Lower Mead then up or can you take the more direct looking path between wickets and hospitality?

edit: oh and is the whole field on a slope? Combination of sleeping mat and sleeping bag always has me sliding to the bottom of the tent.

I camped there the first 3 times I went. It was brilliant to be so close to all the action and the only noise I really noticed was from the Glade. Probably not as quiet as some campsites in the morning once people get up and about, and once the main stages start but that never bothered me. It was the perfect spot for being able to nip back to the tent at any point.

The slope on Hitchin Hill isn't too bad - very gentle at least nearer the bottom where the track runs (can't vouch for higher up nearer the fence as I always head about 5-10 metres in).

christ this thread as made me nervous. I was hoping to get in to woodsies with no hassle - we've got a huge 8 man tent this year, plus a couple of 4 mans so need a lot of space - I thought we'd be able to stroll in there about 2pm. Judging by some of the replies on here it sounds like it will fill up faster than I thought. Please god dont make me camp in darble!!

Russy arrived around 1pm on Wednesday last year and Bushy had plenty of space for all your tents.

Rubenz even Thursday you'd be okay if you didn't have a huge tent.

There was a small row of tents beside Mr Softie and the londrops a few years back. People who arrived late. One of the worst camping spots Ive ever seen. The sound of Mr Softies generator, slamming metal toilet doors and a constant stink of piss and shit.

I think we may be having a change of tactics this year, despite getting tickets at the same time from separate buyers - the other two people we travel down with are on a different coach. They are wanting to camp in Oxylers, we usually camp separately and just meet up during the festival. What is the likelihood of finding space for two 4 man tents in Oxylers at around 2pm? Is it a possibility or is it madness? I'm usually someone who would always opt for a quieter camp site so I'm not faffing with trying to find space. Just want to know if it is possible before carrying our stuff there to carry it back.. (I'm hoping we stick to the trusting Bushy Ground to be fair, it's quiet but I never feel to far away from everything, even though I am)

Yeah, that's exactly it. It's a bit around the houses but the worst thing last year was the queue at gate A before getting into the actual site. As has been said above, the hill isn't that bad, certainly not as steep as that at gate D but after the trek in, it can be a bit of a killer final stretch

What time does Oxylers or Park Home fill up by?

My group has 3 guys getting the 2am coach from London who are going to be taking a couple of massive tents, another group of I think 5 or 6 are getting the first train from Paddington and the rest (me included) wont be getting there until the afternoon (between 12 and 2pm coaches from London).

Would it be wise for us to give all our tents to either of the first two groups or will there still be space to add a few smaller 2/3 mans around the big tents going down early?

The walk to it once you're through the gate takes about 10mins at most. We always camp against the hedgerow at the bottom of the field and it's pretty flat. Nice and peaceful at night as you don't really get any footfall through it as there isn't any thing else around for people to be walking to.

You only really get a bit of sound bleed from the JP and Pyramid and they shut earlyish anyway.

Always have enough space for 5 or 6 tents and a campfire too.

Yep we got in at about 10:30 last year and it was filling up, we managed to get about 3 or 4 tents up for people arriving later/thursday so I would highly recommend you guys do the same.

I peeled up on at 10pm on a Friday once & we pitched out tents in the dark on what I think was woodsies. Woke up Saturday and we were slap bang in the middle of some else's camp all up in between tents & everything.

They were sound about it and even helped us by moving there tents slightly and we all shared the space more efficacy.
