How stereophonics are getting slated on here and maximo park praised is beyond me!

Laughable isn't it. Stereophonics have written some incredible music. Their 1st two albums are an absolute piss take.

Apologies if they've already come up but what about The Hives?

Look like they are doing the festival circuit this summer and would be a good and energetic start to the weekend!

The Hives in 2013 was one of the best things that ever happened at Glastonbury. Beyond all doubt. I cannot for the life of me understand why they haven't since been booked as a sub headliner...if ever there was a band that it would be great to follow it's them. Get them a fucking ladder.

The Hives were great. The Friday line-up that year was fantastic. I left my tent at 9.30AM and arrived back at 6am. Literally watched bands all day long.

These were quality. Silliest booking ever having them on that early! I remember standing on the path watching them with my GF who hates them on record and she basically pissed herself laughing watching Howlin' Pelle dancing around! Field was PACKED for that early!

I would be happy with Ash, but I suspect most would not at this stage in their career. I've seen them a few times and have always had a good time.

I dunno, everyone sort of likes Ash don't they? I'd imagine they would get more of a crowd that early in the day than any other time, just because their band many have either seen before or not that fussed but like a few songs.

  • 2 weeks later...

Maybe the link to Foals and the festival could be that they open on the Friday? Their comeback moment (ahead of a big slot next year when the new album is out). Definite movements happening on their social media accounts, reckon new music is close to appearing.

The album's done so hopefully we'll hear something sooner rather than later. I don't think they'll be the Friday opener but I'd be delighted if they are.

This. So much.

I was stunned. Beady Eye were extraordinarily sheeeiiiite and then The Hives. I found myself thinking: "It's only two bands in. That's going to be hard to top". I don't think I've ever been that pumped before midday.

Get them a ladder indeed. I can't believe they haven't been back since.

The Hives are in the country on the 4th July and no gigs between then and Glastonbury, so I'm definitely hoping they'll appear in some form as they one of the most fun bands on the planet. An early Other slot would be perhaps a bit too similar to their previous appearance, though a secret set absolutely sounds like something they would do - could they do a secret JP slot like The Kooks last year? That is of course if they don't just get announced on Tuesday.

Yeah that's why I don't think it will be them. If they're going to test new songs then intimate gigs like the ones they did before Holy Fire seem more likely.

Yeah it would be unlike them with their past path on new albums. Perhaps mentioning in hope rather than expectation.

I was at the Doncaster Leopard - upstairs in a pub with about 150 others on a Sunday night! Was a bit mental.

Ah I considered going to that Doncaster gig but wasn't that fussed about them at the time. Wish I had done now.

Got to be honest, if I see the HIves listed on Tuesday it will just about make my year. I'd watched their Reading set from a hospital bed the year before, gutted at having had to give up my ticket and I was only at the Brown Eye set because I was so keen to see them.

As mentioned, it was packed for an early set and was probably the best start to the musical portion of the festival ever (I'd challenge anyone to find a better set so early on Friday in any year of the festival).

Also agreeing with the Hives love in from 2013, it was my first glastonbury and literally watching that set Open (i missed Beady eye but heard they were naff anyway) the festival on the 1st main day was better than some of the full weekends iv been to at other uk festivals.

A little section at the end of the set here:

I doubt Glastonbury has had many mosh pits (yes I know it looks tame, lol) at midday on the Friday before.

Was a fantastic set, here's hoping they get announced, il bring his ladder just in case

Good point. You can prove anything with facts, can't you :) Should've been given The Ladder last year then?

...(I'd challenge anyone to find a better set so early on Friday in any year of the festival)...

Can't be arsed to look at the moment but I'm guessing The Stranglers weren't Friday then (if we're being stage specific)?

Edit: I forgot Blondie!!! How could I forget Blondie!!!???

Only last year. Fact fans.

The Stranglers did play on the Friday and I also think they played second as well (from my very loose memory!)

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
