Headliners 2016

Joy Division are a great band. Best ever? No. Top 10 ever? No. Most important band ever? No.

They are just a great band. Not too much else to say on it really. You're free to dislike them, just as you're free to dislike any other band.

Pretty much a non-starter of a debate in my opinion :P

Am I alone in thinking that LWTUA is one of the most overrated, lauded songs in (relatively) recent pop music history, and that the band that spawned it was never as good and influential as every muso might suggest.

If you were alive and actively into music when LWTUA was released you would understand. It was so different it was superb.

Heard today it is a different matter - though I love it as the memories flood back.

Do you know "Atmosphere." If not, listen to it. If after that, you still feel the same then I fear you are lost. Hope you enjoy Adele. ;)

Listened to Atmosphere.

Yup. Decent tune. Vocal is frickin' horrible mind, but it's a nice soundscape and quite innovative at the time, I would reckon.

They're still a bit meh, mind...

:)

Not a lover of that film. It is based on the Deborah Curtis book. She does have an axe to grind and that is fair enough. Yet I do not think it gives enough credit to the others. 24hr Party People is the same.

To be fair, it's not about Joy Division.  It's about Ian Curtis and his personal life.  You might be too close to the band to get the same from it I did, since I'm not knowledgeable about them, I simply enjoyed the story that was being told, irrespective of what basis it may have had in reality.

One of my best friend's brother had killed himself a couple of years earlier, so I found it incredibly moving.  And when Atmosphere played at the end... I'd just found a new and lasting appreciation for the music of Joy Division.

This is a good book mate. Will leave it there as I don't want to clog down the headliner thread.

Nice interview. Maybe reading too much into it but if Adele wasn't playing do you think she would just come out and say "She's not doing it this year," to stop Adele fans getting their hopes up? Ahh the joys of speculation.

You can smell smugness all over it.

You can, can't you? Might as well be saying "Ha ha we've got the most popular singer on the planet." Fair enough though, it's a pretty huge booking if they have managed it.

You have no soul. You'll probably be at the pyramid Friday night seeing as you're so "dead inside."

Surely you at least concede that even if the vocals aren't for you, his lyrics are touching.

"please agree with me and validate my tastes"

Oh fair enough.  Was this talk of sub only ever crazy talk on here?

less 'crazy talk' and more 'idle speculation' .... I've had nothing to suggest she wouldn't be doing Glasto, but until more recently nothing that was putting her in the headline slot with almost-certainty, and with the possibility of RH playing the possibilities of where they might play were considered.
