i'm pretty sure i read that 20% of festival attendees each year are first-timers.

as such, at this stage it's highly likely that the majority of 2016 attendees didn't go in 2011, so have never been at a Glastonbury with Coldplay.

most people whinging about them playing again seem to be people who have been since before 2011, but they're firmly in the minority.

Anyhoo....

I reckon the reason Coldplay announced today is because Glastonbury don't tend to announce 2 headliners on the same day (though it has happened - THERE IS NO PATTERN!!!).

So Coldplay today, someone else at the NME Awards tomorrow.

Don't think so. Just been on The Graun and they seemed overkeen to mention that they're playing a stadium tour as well as G.

I've seen no lists on them on efests so far.... most surprising....

I think that if The Thingy tells us anything, it is that they don't like to repeat patterns in terms of making announcements... 

... theoretically the fact that there has never been announcements on consecutive days before may make it MORE likely that we will this year.

Nonsense. People have been saying he's "not been up to it" for about 20 years and he keeps proving them wrong. The Olympic ceremony was admittedly an off night for him, but he still regularly puts on amazing stadium shows round the world. 

I saw him at Hampden in 2010 and he was unbelievable.

Erm why? He's one of the biggest acts in the world right now, at the absolute top of his game. There's a pretty good chance he'll have a new album out by the 2017 festival as well - it is almost a year and a half away

I doubt he'll have a new album out so soon - three year gap between his last two and he's such a huge name that he can go away for as long as he wants and not be forgotten about. There's no rush for a new album. Plus i imagine R/L will be the first to book him as a headliner rather than Glastonbury
