Increased capacity this year?

Just looking at a few older articles and it says the capacity last year was 177,500, with this years being 198,000. That's a lot of extra people if its correct.

Think the amount of staff on site, stewards and security etc is being increased

There are plenty of conflicting figures as there are numbers of tickets sold vs site capacity including staff, and they never seem to marry up.

I doubt there will be much greater capacity this year. than the last 2. Camping and the arenas might be able to just about cope, but the paths in-between the areas are stretched to their limits currently.

132,500 paying customers plus 45,000 staff makes 177,500

I can't imagine why they would need another 20,000 staff ?

Don't quite alot of the smaller acts and artists need their own ticket? Maybe they are uping the numbers they have for performers tickets to.

(I think when they first got that number, they said it was more of a cotingency if they needed it. Think Bestival has something similar in their license)

Think he might have been facetious with that comment :P

Nope I meant it, had all my cash stolen the first night in 2010 and then watched security chasing some git fully dressed in black though the tents in 2013. He was damn lucky he saw our campfire and diverted his course or he would have been "caught" and then handed over.

The extra 20,000 staff will be required over the next few years when the Eavii implement their plan of having all camping pre-erected and allocated like Worthy View.

if they do go down this road they will face a LOT of resistance, not to mention the admin of sorting out who gets to camp where....

thats a discussion for another time though

Honestly? I always find it amazing how the festival in its current form has operated with so few staff places. It doesn't take much walking around to see why Glastonbury needs more staff places than say Reading.

Remember that staff in this context means everyone who doesn't buy a ticket, so there's a huge number of performer passes out there - but even so there's a huge shortage in some areas, especially the smaller music stages. It's a few years ago now but I'm aware of a band that had to pay 3 sperate slots at the festival in order to cobble together enough tickets to get all 4 members on site

the 'staff' allocation also includes (or at least, it did in the past and probably still does) a fixed number to account for 12 & under aged kids - so it's not actually all staff and performers. The kids allocation used to be around 4,000, although I'd have estimated the numbers of kids on site was significantly greater than that. I suspect this has been adjusted with the licence increase to better reflect the reality of the numbers of kids.

One of the reasons they need the expansion is because the festival (and all festivals) are becoming less about the big stages and more about smaller venues - which means you need many more performers (and related infrastructure staff) for the same number of punters.

Yep, hopefully the police presence has also been increased and they bring in an army battalion or two

Water Cannons!!! That's ALWAYS the answer.

Oh, and crucifixion, nail some fucking sense into them. Nail em up!!

Let's not forgetting hanging, for first offences...you know, like having curly hair or talking with an accent.

I know that the number of volunteers for recycling etc was being increased and that

Tony Cordy, head of kidz field told me once that their are 10'000 children under 13

each year.......

yep, and tony has had to cut staff numbers quite hard over the years too - so i guess they'll be lots of areas pleased to have a higher allocation.
