Poncho or Rain Coat / Pacamac

Instead of the usual wellies or walking boot debate.

I'm thinking a poncho would be better this year (weather depending). They seem more breathable.

Any recomendations?

Take like 10 of those little ponchos in a bag for £1 each. Use as and when needed and then bin. They do the job for brief showers.

But it's not going to rain this year so this question really is irrelevant!!!

proper rain jacket any day. quite apart from their uselessness ponchos make you look like an absolute tool

Seems a bit wasteful!

Im going to go for slightly more pricey option this year. Splashed out £4 last time and was soggier then an otters pocket.

A proper rain jacket / mac in a sack effort is the only way to go.

Simple, effective and takes up no room in a rucksack.

German army suples poncho. Its a poncho, something to sit on. Can string up between tents as a shelter from sun or rain. I like to think of it as a thinking mans gazeebo.

There is something liberating about using a long drop in the rain in a poncho too.

poncho, as you can usually use them to sit on wet ground too.

Both. If the rain looks set in for the day then I take out the mac in a sac. Otherwise I just stick a poncho (green army type) in my pocket and whip it out at prolonged showers and to sit on.

Plus easier to cover your cider from being watered down in the rain.

If it's a jacket you want, Decathlon will usually do decent Quechua ones that fold up into its own pocket.

I've seen people say they do excellent ponchos as well so you may well get both in one go, and for a very good price

I'm definitely a coat fan, ponchos just seem to get in the way. However, my mum got me and my boyfriend these at Christmas specifically for Glastonbury so maybe I'll poncho it up for a day (if it rains, which it won't obviously).

You will need a hat and sun cream this year.. I usually take a rain jacket and mac in a sac. Ponchos have always seemed a little wasteful!

Waterproof jacket, plus a small emergency poncho in case I'm caught by surprise (not used it yet).

Oh, and shorts for the bottom half. Always shorts in the rain.

I have a Helly Hansen jacket and I love it brought it upon hearing the weather report for glasto 2008 and it's still going strong, Best £60 ever

Proper army poncho for me.

No way is any jacket doing the job against Somerset rain.

Plus you can sit on a poncho, or fall over and not get covered in shit.

I opted for cheap ponchos, but my big head ripped it as soon as I put it on, so just before a Hyde Park gig (step-daughters idea, honest), I got an ex-Swiss Army poncho from a local ex-army warehouse to me in Leeds. In fact I got 5 for us all, but for some reason, no-one else wants to wear them..... There were quite a few of us wearers at last year's Beacons Festival though, nodding in brotherhood.

I'm defo in the poncho camp. Like has been said it has so many uses plus if it rains your bag is under it so it stays dry and you can sit in a chair and the poncho acts like a mini tent, in a jacket your legs get soaked. And as it's going to be sunny and warm you'll need a poncho as a sun shade this year........

Ex army poncho for me. You can sit / lie down in quite muddy areas in them and not get your clothes covered in mud. If it's a wet one (which it wont be this year) then this break from having to stand all the time is essential, in my opinion.

Bought my latest one (after I foolishly got rid of my first one) from an army surplus store out here in the States and while shopping I realised that they also sold British police hi vis jackets..was very tempted, but pretty sure that would be more trouble that its worth
