Poncho or Rain Coat / Pacamac

I prefer looking like a tit and having water proof trousers. Used them for the first time last year and was really smug when the downpour happened.

the first time i wore waterproof trousers for a festival was Leeds in 08 and i swear it changed my life, i wouldn't dream of going to a fest without them now, being able to walk through the mud without worrying about your legs getting wet is so liberating

And probably not - the landslide of crappy cheap camping kit bought with offers like that all gets left behind come Monday morning resulting in a million pound cleanup job - better people buy only the bits they need and get decent kit.

I've been round and round on this and 5 years in I have finally worked out the best combo for me.

I have a trespass water proof light weight jacket. If it's looking like it will be cold I have a zip up hoodie underneath. This covers off warmth and rain showers. Having a jacket also gives lots of useful zipped pockets.

If it's likely to be torrential I go for the plastic ponchos over the top... but not a cheap cling film style one. One that's not likely to rip. They are small so they can be chucked in a bag on thosw days where you look up and are not sure.

For luxury I also have a honcho... available on site and apparently waterproof...

I have water proof trousers but i've rarely used them, partly as i fear they're often too hot ( i'd have to wear something underneath them as they have no lining). Shorts work ok but still sweaty on your shins and calves. Be interested to look at lined versions or fabrics i could easily line them with/wear underneath.

Saw a guy in a waterproof boilersuit/onesie last year, happily sitting in mud - was considering that for this year but i think a poncho with the waterproof trousers will do the job.

Me and the Mrs got some canvas ex army ones of eBay. They were about £17 each, one was date stamped 1978 and one 1982, but in great condition. Think they are Polish Army ones from the tags on them.

Just hope they are waterproof in case we need them, which obviously we won't.

Pac a Jac for showers and a long poncho over the top for rain. Waterproof trousers are horrible in mud as you get mud splash back and very messy. Just wear wellies and tights/shorts/skirt! Of course it will not rain this year

I have a regatta light weight pack a mac and one of those massive nothing is getting through this bugger ponchos from decathlon (about £6 I think) look like a walking tent but they are the best things and can fold up pretty small for your bag

I tend to where tights / shorts combo or legging at festivals as dry quickly and don't take up too much space / weight when travelling

Just one thing I must say that downpour during Kodaline really did put poncho to the test last year lol

Anyone got any links to good amry ponchos?

When I got mine I did a search for a local army & navy surplus goods supplier in my area. They had a great selection and I got mine at a very reasonable price. Other than that they are available on ebay but they are more expensive on there.
