Blur are filed alongside pulp, suede etc for me.

Say what you want about radiohead, but you wouldn't view them in that way.

Whether you agree with the assertion their new stuff is good or not/how they compare to Radiohead is worthy of debate.

That theyre a "heritage band" is factually incorrect.

Nope.

But Russys original point that you described as horseshit is in fact true. For now.

"For now" ?

:D

Irrespective of whether you like their new material theyve a new album that will form the backbone of any new shows.

So Russy's point is utter cobblers. As is yours.

Perfectly willing to debate the quality of the stuff with you - but to be so dismissive and snidey about it is a dickmove. Atypical dickmove from you Scoot it has to be said. Youve been knocking Blur on eFests for years.

I was referencing pulp only - not suede.

One song doesn't count - for me - so I reckon russy was right - until this album was announced.

And if this album turns out to be shite then he's still right but from the sound of the single I don't think it will be.

They wouldn't be touring/playing Hyde Park again if it wasn't for a new record. Anyway I'm not getting into semantics.

I'll debate this with you over a pint in June btw Russ. Utter horseshit from you.

;)

save the debate and pint for next June... when we'll have Radiohead, Blur, and the short purple fella from Minnesota to make up for this year's trio.

Can't see how you compare Blur to the great Radiohead tho...the only band to have 2 Glasto headline sets that are both considered absolute classics, amongst best gigs on pyramid field ever category...

Not a huge Blur or Albarn fan (which you are) but did tremendously enjoy Blur in '09...great set. 3rd best headline set of weekend for me...

i live in America and I only know them from the sports stadiums when a goal is scored and that heavy metal song they do comes on the arena soundsystem (that's for you Nal)

I've seen Radiohead a few times. Dublin show in 97 was incredible. Think most people would trade one of their current postrock sets for that day's setlist.

As regards 09 - loved Neil. Bruce had an off night. But Blur is the 2nd best show I've ever seen. I've concerns about them appearing again however. Hyde Park wasn't a patch on Glastonbury.

Damon's melodic gifts and impish sense of creativity are unrivalled in Britain in the last 20 years btw Teva. Give "13" a listen. Sensational record.

In Rainbows is good. So that's one decent album in the last 15 years.

i don't see how King of Limbs doesn't come across as a great album. Kid A and Kid B were great. Hail to the Thief is the worst of the past 15 yrs to me, and if that's someone's worst I'll take that. and think how good they were in '03 on the Pyramid with that as the featured album of the moment.

yeah, look I am teasing about any pretense of lack of knowledge about Damon/Blur, i've read lots on him and their stuff has grown on me. i'm familiar with the records (truly tried to get into them in the early to mid-90's) the missus is a bigger fan than I am. He's one of those artists as an individual that I'd love to spend time with, chat too, etc...I'm just not the huge adoring fan of the music or the band that a lot are. Elvis Costello has similar reaction on me (i.e. ton of respect, don't love the music). I'm actually quite shamed now in thinking that I was far more into Oasis back in the Def maybe/Story days than Blur. I tried to get into both back then, but just didn't latch onto Blur. i was going to see them in 95 or 96 (or maybe it was 97?) at a tiny club in Boston called Axis which would have been a coup given how big they were in UK then, but i was at a pub with mates on a really good late afternoon, early evening and got convinced into staying with them instead. so i was definitely keen to see their '09 gig. i'm hoping for a one-off Madison Square Garden gig which they could easily do. and for next year on Pyramid

i used to rank Hail To The Thief quite highly but as time's gone on i've become less and less fond of it. some great songs, but also some quite forgettable songs, and it's far too long (something which the band have addressed themselves what with Thom's revised tracklist)

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
