Here's his summary from the Tuesday before the festival last year (the last one most of us would have seen).

 

Summary

The theme yesterday of a dry Thursday looks most mostly correct, although some rain is possible for the evening. The trend for the weeknd continues to worsen.

Friday and Saturday are both looking potentially troublesome in terms of rainfall, enough to quite possible cause mud issues, and depending on the luck with the showers, this may range to minor amounts of mud, and moderate amounts of mud. Perhaps then a bit better on Saturday.

Sunglasses and sun cream may be needed for the festival, to start and between the showers for the weekend, but wellies look an absolute must, they may not be needed, but I would suggest they probably would. It is a good job, I have stopped the ratings, as it would have bee worse than the 6 of yesterday.

 

Not a million miles out, but not what we actually saw either. The chance of a thunderstorm was being predicted for Saturday rather than the Friday when it actually happened. And interestingly at that point he was predicting a 6/7 rating for mud - spot on Justperfect's rating! Salt and pepper being added to my hat...

If that's a bit of a pop at me, you're wrong. I don't expect any forecast from anyone to be correct this far out. But some people (not necessarily you) sometimes appear to be crediting this guy with skills he just doesn't have. He has access to the same information as everyone else and makes his predictions which are generally no more accurate than any other source. He certainly didn't correctly forecast the amount of rain hitting the site at the start of the festival last year even a day or so beforehand.

Sometimes it's a nice thing to be grateful for a person's honest efforts even if they don't succeed - after all it may have been an impossible task.

Showing gratitude for well meaning acts encourages people to do likewise, the world works better and everyone is happier.

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone would suggest both a thermal base layer top and a thermal fleece type thing for the cold setting in. I've never really done thermals before at a fest, just braved the cold but I'm going to start lol.

Merino wool base layer, then a fleece on top of that. Merino is incredible, the warmth/weight ratio is great. If it's hot in the day you (well I do) really notice the chill at night so I always have an extra layer in my bag, merino screws up pretty small too so dead easy to lug around.

Cheers, I've gone for two long sleeved base layers from Millets but I was thinking I'll probably need a fleece on top. I've always used just a normal jumper over but doesn't really keep the cold out.

Seems a bit more ideal for thermal reasons than the £10 cheaper one which doesn't mention specific warmth just cosy to keep warm, every fleece will say that lol.

A fleece is pretty much just a fleece - no matter how much you spend on them. The cut seems a little better on the more expensive ones but there's not a lot in it. Only problem I've had with some of the cheaper ones is that they have a strange musty smell even after washing. Most important thing is that the fleece has good wicking properties.

And check the body length - had a few that seem fine until you raise your arms or lean forward.

Weather predictions right now are like circles. Totally pointless.

This. Last year was horrible for that - looked great at just over a week out

 

Aye, remember stocking up on the sun cream, ordering some new shorts.

 

Then weds morning, forlornly packing extra wet weather gear and leaving the sun cream behind. Annoyingly I became distracted by the weather on the Thurs day, constantly looking at the sky waiting for it to start raining.

As stated above, fleece is fleece really, Only thing to consider on your base layer (thermals) is that synthetic ones get VERY stinky very quickly. That's why I would always go Merino, days of wear and not a niff in sight.

I got my Merino wool from Gooutdoors but you can get it at most outdoor shops, something like this

Yeah, with fleece I think it's much of a muchness. There are more expensive ones that have "windstopper" which makes them windproof but outside that a fleece is just a fleece. I had a £3 charity shop one last year (had arm in a sling so needed an XL fleece so it would fit inside to stay warm) and it was as warm as ones I have paid £50-60 for to be honest.

 

Best thing I have worm at Glasto for warmth in the evening however, an army Surplus wool jumper like this one

Why the fleece I have to ask? It may be wet but it's highly doubtful it'll be 'fleece cold' enough at the end of June, even at night it's been 16/17 down here in Cornwall. Fleece in June to me spells 'sweat to death' haha

 

There have been times when the rain comes down with the cold at night that a fleece underneath would of been greatly appreciated. U2 in 2011 was fucking freezing putting it mildly.

Really? Maybe I hang experienced a gold Glastonbury yet the. Haha even when pouring down last year it was still warm....I was in shorts for most of it

Last year was fine. Even in the rain. As it was still pretty humid. And it was a short sharp downpours. 2011 that Friday was pure drizzle and constant rain for hours... Unfortunately once I'm cold I stay cold... no amount of drinking helps hence the pocket warmers... staving off the cold I do that more than getting over my hangovers!

Fri 2011 wasn't nice, but at no point was I as uncomfortable as I was in the heat of 2010.

Whether or not I'd be saying it after 5 days like 2007, I cannot say as I wasn't there. I suspect I would have preferred 2010 as I got restbite from the heat at night.
