The trouble is some of you have your head buried so far up your own arses with your deluded music purist stance , you really cannot see how much of a twat you come across as and simply labelling something as "shit" is just ridiculous, when millions of record sales or millions of viewers shows otherwise. It may be brainless, predictable, by the numbers pop music, which may not be your thang, given your clearly higher social standing than us mere minions, however it meets a demand for the masses at a certain point in time, sometimes that demand continues for a very long time. It's not shit, it's just not your taste.

I'm not speaking about Madonna, I was referring to comments about Lionel Richie, but my sentiment could be applied to her also. I just find this whole dismissive "they're shit" attitude winds me up a treat and a "true" music lover, likes whatever they like, fuck the genre, the person, their style or politics. A true music lover, which some people on here purport to be, wouldn't be so single minded in that they can only listen to music they can sniff their own farts to.

There's plenty of genres and artists that I like only one or two of their songs and the rest does absolutely nothing for me, but I'm not going to label them "shit" as I appreciate that what they do produce has it's place and millions of others do like it, it's just not for me.

Each to their own dude, but if people are going to come out and be so dismissive I will equally retort.

No mate, that's not the insulting part of it, at all. The insulting part is when those people are referred to as idiots, lacking intelligence, unimaginative etc just because they like something you think is shit. It's a massive intolerance to anything music wise other than what you are into.

Why on earth would i want to think somebody is stupid, boring or unimaginative just because they say on here that they like Lionel Richie, Madonna et al? All that demonstrates is that I would be narrow minded and lacking tolerance towards others for something so trivial as their musical tastes!

Hi Vern. We're great mates now.

All the best.

    • A few snaps from Sunday, which was huge fun, plus Happy Mondays, Radio Free Alice, Fratellis and Pale Waves. We didn't stay for The Streets, as after 3-4 songs it felt so downbeat compared to the rest of the day, and i've got another hectic week at work incoming.
    • It was fine, just hectic! The youngsters were mostly very well-behaved. The weather was a real bonus, although surprisingly chilly evenings - I guess it's the altitude - and the area between sound and main stage was a massive dust bowl.
    • Ive always had a lot of time for the mighty Shots, a pal of mine used to commentate on their games for Sussex Counties radio and he'd sneak me into the ground for midweek games, and we'd even nick a tea and a plate of sandwiches. This is back in the George Borg days, so um . . a little while ago now
    • Hmm, weird- Rush are playing the Co-Op live on the 12th and the 14th, and Megadeth are the meat in that sandwich - so they have to roll everything in, roll it out again, only to roll it back in and then out - here's hoping for a prog hokey-cokey with all manner of bizarre time signatures and drum solos!
    • Depends what you mean by seeing 'more stuff' about it.    I definitely don't trust the original Sun article.
