The Park 2015

I fear that this year is going to be a hefty, hefty lineup towards the top of some of the stages; Park and JPT especially for my musical preferences. With other names like Bjork possibly turning up near the top of the Other too... This year may be a toughie for clashes.

Would be an absolute killer if Caribou and Bjork were to clash, there's definitely a lot of good names getting thrown about for the tops of stages this year it's looking positive

Think Ryan Adams would suit the stage particularly well and is obviously touring his new record. Its probably one of those "so obviously should happen" bookings that for some reason ends up never happening.

Laura Marling is coming back as well but no idea if she'll be ready for a festival appearance by June. Is doing some tiny gigs in Feb (didnt get tickets grumble grumble). Have a very fond memory of her playing the park a few years ago, the setting was perfect.

Obvious choice but i'd like to see Sleaford Mods on the park. Caribou should headline one night a la metronomy this year, about the same level of popularity.

As we all know with this and many stages at glasto, what should happen and what does happen are often sadly very different things. I would always advise not to get your hopes up and then if the lineup is brilliant you'll be pleasantly surprised.

do you honestly belive they're as good now as they've ever been?

I can't get on with the red headed girl as she about 10% as good live as the girl she replaced. her voice is really quiet and doesnt carry at all.

I truly do, my friend. Dismissing Kim as just a girl to replace Aleks does not do her justice at all, she's possibly the best live musician in the band, doesn't have as strong a voice as Aleks did, but she brings something different to the band. They're not the Los Camp of 8 years ago, they've had to change a lot in that time, they've constantly evolved. Hold On Now Youngster is the work of a band that couldn't last, wasn't it? It's an excellent record, possibly my all time favourite, but it only exists because it was fueled by angst and hormones and the quantities of booze that only teenage bodies will tolerate and bounce back from. For Los Campesinos! to continue and mature and produce records like Romance Is Boring and No Blues is amazing to me. They always give it everything when they play live, they're always one of my favorite live acts, a proper gem. Truth be told, the only person I think the current line-up is really suffering from missing is Ollie (not an insult to the current drummer, he's brilliant, but Ollie was unbelievable), other than that I've really enjoyed seeing the band shift and adapt to the changes. I came out of the first No Blues shows - first time seeing them post-Ellen - really over the moon at how the other members had changed to fill that gap, and done something only they could do, instead of a sub-standard imitation of what was before.

great response by obviously a true fan : )

you are right in many respects and they are hardly the only band ever to have their debut as their best album.

in some ways I myself have got older and more mature and as such their music doesnt appeal to me in the same way it once did.

Kim might be a good musician but her voice is undoubtedly weak in a live setting.

where would people suggest i start with Of Montreal? one of those bands who's name i always see floating about who i know i'd probably like but have never given a chance (mostly because of their huge discography)

Common consensus would probably be to start with Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? as that's probably their most popular / accessible moment to date.

Though my own starting point was The Sunlandic Twins which is pretty poppy as well. There's definintely a copuple of albums (Skeletal Lamping, Paralytic Stalks) that I'd maybe leave until later.

One of those bands that I always wanted to like more than I ever managed to. Saw them headline the second stage at Green Man a few years ago. It was good, but when it comes down to it, I'm just not convinced that Kevin Barnes is that great a songwriter, despite being an extremely charismatic and compelling performer. I'm not sure the Emperor is fully clothed.

He's written his fair share of dud songs for sure, but he's so prolific that even if you dislike an entire album there'll be another one along in a minute with an entirely different sound to get stuck into. But even when his muse has let him down a little you can't question his originality - either in terms of the actual musical make-up of the songs - the chord sequences , etc. - or the general lyrical aesthetic. He's a bit of a one off.

tbh i think most of who you've suggested would be on other stages rather than the Park. likely candidates to appear at the festival are (i think):

Future Islands

Sleaford Mods

Caribou (Park headliner)

Belle & Sebastian (Park headliner)

Ride

Django Django

Mac Demarco

First Aid Kit

The Cribs

FKA twigs

Hozier

Jessie Ware

Imelda May

It was mentioned on their own thread that War On Drugs are elsewhere over the festival next year.

I've made a quick playlist of some of their more immediate recent stuff to help anyone out that's interested:

Caveat: this was very much off of the top of my head so I've not listened to it through and I've probably missed something obvious.

    • Another note, if I didn't mention the food in the arena for main stage is right at the back. Bands wise they do very well for but as a festival so far they pros are outweighed quite heavily currently for me.
    • On another note for RIP as an event, there is some good things but there are so many things people going to UK festivals would hate and how far behind they are.  Consistent network and water, beer and pretzel like food is brought around to buy in the crowds. Topping up on the wristband is good. The camping and food arrangement is not good, you really need cooking kit. Water points inside the arena are bonkers, water points in camping are a faff unless you are close enough in general camp. Merch stands are crazy. You MASSIVELY need to think about your lidl shop for camping and try and do it so you've one stop. It's definitely worth it getting to a camping shop here, picking up a rolley between your mates and stacking it for the walk back....lidl is cheap though, not hard getting in but Thursday queues getting in and into the camping is mad. You have to register first for a wristband as well leaving any bigger bags behind so pull to a side if only two and do it separately. I was joining a WhatsApp group for solo camp so went with the flow but I've learnt. Had it been me or just two my tent would have been down much quicker.  Big final note, I got a fresh and black 3 man from decathlon before coming and put in bigger suitcase with my airbed and sleeping bag...do this. Take a smaller option for your clothes. If you go to Munich first, book your train to Nuremberg as far in advance as you can....very important!....it hikes crazy. Probably bettee overall for baggage sizes to do BA both ways but you do then need to go back to Munich after too. Use the B&B hotel hbf the night before....its very nice, comfortable, cheap and within 10 minutes of the station which also serves as a transport stop 15 minutes from the registration.  Get up literally like 5am with everything back the night before, shower and go. Transport is free anyway for festival ticket holders during the duration.  Would I just choose to travel in each day and back to a hotel?, on the basis of sleep and getting accommodation cheap enough for 3 nights i might just do especially if I picked the ticket up early enough. It doesn't feel like a festival in a normal sense....unless you are in general yoi have to exit on the paths outside the camping to walk down and in which also applies for getting water so have a stock up. Toilets are in the camping.
