Glastonbury and Terrorism

Bit dark but a thought I had whilst in the thick of it Saturday night!!

What with all the threats being highlighted again and the ever growing threat of a attack on our country, it got me thinking.

Do you think Glastonbury would ever be at risk ( or any big festival) from a terrorist threat?

I was stood packed in like sardines and my mind wandered after seeing, I'm sorry for this comment, but a couple of chaps of Eastern European appearance and to be frank, I got a little bit paranoid :/! Soon forgot about it but it got me thinking about it when I got home and turned the tv on.

Let's face it, unless security randomly pulled said people over and searched them, it wouldn't be that hard to get bomb making or made materials into a festival.

Honest and open question really...

While anything is possible, festies end up being one of the least likely places to get attacked by terrorists.

Firstly, compared to any attempt elsewhere, the likelihood of being stopped and searched on the way to the job is massively higher at a festival than it is just about anywhere else. There also tends to be a higher police presence than in the 'normal' world.

Secondly, terrorists tend to want to plan their crime. Because of the annual nature of festivals, it makes it very difficult to plan compared to just about any other target.

And thirdly, any planning would be weak and flawed compared to other targets - because from one year to the next things can change around massively, including going from almost no searches to almost everyone being searched.

If I were a terrorist, I could find more effective targets with a much better chance of success.

Thankfully these days we still live in an age where a number of potentially awful things could be comitted by someone who had the will - but we don't go through airport-style pantomime making sure it doesn't happen. I'm not sure how long that will last :(

I'm surprised any of the Beatles even went outside after Lennon was shot.
