Anywhere with crowds could be a target but when you stop doing anything on the basis of fear then they have won.

Your question is not as ridiculous as some of the answers which followed. There was no searching of any bag which I seen on the way in so not beyond the realms of possibility. Like I said, not worth the worry.

Back to the OP. You're not on your own, I've been thinking the same thing for the last few years. But I chance it, because I fucking love glasto.

It seems OTT saying 'chance it' but the radicalism of pissed off/disenchanted/lost young men and women is quite real. We see it every day and it's more prevalent. Syria, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, etc. Iran an exception in this (not the same splinter groups, more grande scale/state pissed off) but all the countries with unrest are pissed off with the west...

Glasto just like London, just like anywhere with crowds is a legit target. You walk around with a back pack in glasto smelling of almonds no one would give a shit. But we won't be fucking deterred. Love and peace and all that x

Yeah I do. How much has the threat grown since say the mid nineties? Quite a bit. Suicide bombing was confined to internal conflicts such as Israel Palestine and Russia Chechnya. Now, there are so many splinter groups of holy jihadists it's hard to keep track. Domesticated terrorism is a real threat and I don't think it's large scale but I do think we don't hear about everyone who is tracked/foiled/arrested. It's just something we can't be worrying about, it's just something to be vigilant about.

"You sow the wind, you reap the whirlwind, it is said

When people know they have no future

Can we blame them if we cannot tame them?

And when their hopes and dreams are broken

And they feel they might as well be dead

As they go, will we forgive them

If they take us with them? "

Mmmmm. Not with fear, with knowledge. Having worked previously studying this I am just aware. Two successful attacks, many more not come to fruition through to aforementioned incapability, foiled plans, etc

I don't want to harp on about it because I don't want people to think you much about it. It can't shape us or what we do but being aware is the best thing. The threats over the years have slowly changed. A militant IRA has a totally diff MO to say three students in a bedroom.

The MO is identical. Spread fear through violence. The IRA managed it regularly, yet the so called radical Islamists cannot. Why not?

And they have the advantage of being prepared to die themselves in the attack making the whole thing even easier to undertake.

If the threat was actually real of course.

Probably just fell down as a result of two enormous skyscrapers collapsing across the street.

Building 7 has been a big focus of the conspiracy theorists and therefore also the conspiracy debunking movement. There's a huge amount of material online supporting both sides - whenever I read this stuff the debunking arguments always seem simpler / more sensible, and therefore more plausible.

And the usual petty insults from the usual suspects......

Tell you what. As a radical departure from your usual behaviour, why not tell us which bit of my post you disagree with rather than resorting to your pathetic jibes?

Agree with government being our biggest threat, that is evident from the petty rules and regs on stage finish times and sound restrictions.

The terrorist threat at a UK festival will never put me off, no way BUT all I'm saying is, it wouldn't be hard, atall. Ypu say security are in on drug dealing, you say they are robbing tents, robbing people. Hmmmmmm it wouldn't be hard, trust me

I don't think there'll ever be a threat to Glastonbury. There are some others that are pure hedonism and might well offend the fruitcakes but this is a peaceful festival that probably has a higher %age of people willing to listen to their points already than anywhere else - it'd be the worst place to bomb.

They want to open folk's ears and be heard, not just scare them - that's just the means to an end. Scaring folk off from somewhere that encourages and celebrates the multitude of ways of life would be a real home goal.

I had an odd incident - two blokes who looked very arab/muslim came charging up to me very early hours saturday morning as i was mindlessly dancing back from the loos to arcadia. One of them grabbed me by the shoulders and i got a proper "WTF?" moment not quite able to put together how they looked and the fact they seemed to be pretty drunk and having an awesome time. I think they asked for directions and I gave them, they were probably wondering why i was grinning at them so much

Of course terrorists could strike anywhere - be it a City centre, football match or festival. Not going to let it affect my life in any way though, chances of it happening are pretty remote - much more likely to die in a car crash driving to Glasto than you are getting blown up whist there

Do quite like the idea of a couple of terrorists entering the site intent on mayhem but get taken over by the spirit of the site and and up raving at 4am in Bez's Acid House hugging everyone instead
