Not that he will headline... and not that this has anything to do with headlines...

but Bob dylan has just announced a few uk dates in october,

Why couldn't he headline?

    1008

The highest they ever played was 5th down, in 2003. They were booked for 3rd down in 2004 just before they broke up. Don't understand how their reunion has made that band so much bigger, especially with no new material in over 10 years.

The highest they played at R&L before splitting up was 3rd down in 2004, and they're headlining there this year.

He possible could, but we already know that it's a band headlining and not a solo artist. I love Dylan, but don't really see him headlining anymore. He's just not got the reputation as a live performer to pull of a headlining slot. He's a musical legend, but not a suitable headlining act. In my opinion anyway.

It can only get better than Kasabian!

Also are you a tractor boy?

Amen to that!

I am taking tractor boy to mean a Ipswich Town fan, in which case no I'm not. Bluenose me (Birmingham City). If you don't mean that then I don't know what you mean, and I'm still not a tractor boy...

Horrible set at FiB, horribly shite.

Agreed, they really were poor at Beni last year but incredible at Leeds in 2010. I think libertines just don't cut it as a headliner, whilst they might be getting the slots, no new material (yet) and they're hit and miss when it comes to their shows, in general sub slots is the highest comfortable position for them in my mind they can get

I'm not doubting that they've gotten bigger. It's just weird that that's happened so much, especially now that they've been back for a while and the reunion hype's died down.

I really hope not but...

.....Simply Red.

- new album out 1st June - same day as announcement

- Touring later in the year

- "He's definitely British, but the band are not British any more"

- "been around for a long time"

Foals, Ed Sheeran, Adele, Florence will all be in the pipeline soon enough

Then people will be talking about the good old days when Foos, KOL and Arctics were headliners

That will probably be me moaning then haha apart from about Foals that is.

Got to have something to moan about

You have to remember that Travis had a huge amount of media attention for both themselves and the festival the previous year, when the heavens opened while they were playing "Why does it always rain on me?" on the other stage, it was like Elbow's performance of "One day like this" that one year that people took to their hearts as a feel good Glastonbury moment.

Travis went down well with the crowd on their headline night, which was alleged to have been the largest crowd ever at Glastonbury at the time due to the huge numbers on site that day with the fences being an illusion and that fact being broadcast on the daily news.

Yea i agree! dont get me wrong i like Travis! had some good early songs. but looking back at past headliners with them included, the libertines wouldnt look out of place imo

I thought about posting this the other day.

Also the tour has not yet sold out I dont think hence why they cant announce yet :/

Ah yeah sorry that post was more aimed at Zac, but I thought I'd quote the post with the relevant information in it.

Could be the "great penultimate". Would be much more interesting than the likes of Noel G.

Reading is a weird one because their audience is so young with such a high turnover the majority of people seeing the libertines this time round would not have been old enough to go in 2010 so despite probably playing the same setlist again they can because it will be to a whole new set of ears ( same goes for Blink)

When I saw The libertines in Portugal last year, they were awful (musically). Pete could hardly sing never mind play guitar. But at the end of the day, that is The Libertines. And overall; hearing all the classics and watching them act up on stage- it was great. I don't even particularly like them either.

I expect them to be a lot different this time round now Pete is 'clean'... Maybe he will be coherent enough to say words, rather than just mumble. Who knows!

Please no. Just no. No. I'd rather them put The Verve back on than this.

Libertines are sort of a cult band though so they've always had a loyal following but since there seems to be a shortage of headliners these days the labels have probably pushed them to the point of headliners just so it's something new

Mmm. I respect why you keep bringing it up but atm there isn't anyone who isn't ruled out by at least one of the 'criteria'.

Which of the criteria rules out Take That?

Shows to sell in May

Tour dates work perfectly

Band

British

Have had stadium tours as reasons to turn down Glasto HQ's offers in the last few years they could feasibly have been asked to headline.

They would also fit the "said they hadn't been called despite wanting to play" pattern.

It's obviously them.

Take That would be awful. Fortunately I'm more than certain it wouldn't be them. They have been announced as headliners for Car Fest in August, so I don't see why Glastonbury would have to wait for an announcement.

Game over man.

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.
