Oh dear, Radiohead mentioned :), missed that, now you really are plucking at my strings Neil! This has to happen before the fallow year so why not now! Please make this happen

Though I will probably be let down again :(

I've merely repeated something that I know is going around in some music biz circles.

I've also said I don't think there's anything to it.

She's playing a UK fest though

I honestly think we've tried to treat Emily like she has patterns and it would be completely beyond her to lie about an act being there - it's not even that bad of a thing to do, if you think that one of your headliners you wanna keep relatively secret is becoming common knowledge you would tell a porkie? Right?

but SHE brought up Florence - she hadn't been mentioned in the interview before Emily herself brought her up. she could've just stayed quiet and let the whole thing ride out, but she didn't. it just wouldn't make sense for her to lie in such a way

I agree. I know someone (not particularly well, but still) who is quite high up in event security and he says he's never known secrecy like it this year. Apparently he usually knows who the headliners are ahead of release but this year, nada.

He is absolutely adamant that Robbie Williams will be there in some way, though. Won't say why he's so sure but I trust him. Doesn't seem like a bullshitter.

Thankfully he's busy on the Sunday!

I've yet to meet one person in the fairly decent sized group I know going to Glasto who gives a shit about the Foos

That says more about your group than anything else!

I find groups tend to follow a trend, and can't be used as a true sample as a whole. Much as you can't use this board as a true sample either. For example, my also sizable group of friends who are going (if we're going to have agroup-off) love the Foo's but hate Kanye. Our ideal headliners are fairly eclectic though and include Radiohead, The Who, Taylor Swift, Prince, Stone Roses... you name it.

They are still undeniably a decent headline band though, that will put a smile on a lot of people's faces.

In the NME interview you can faintly hear someone asking about florence - how do you know Scottie didn't bring up florence in the interview then deny it ;)

as i said on the last page, Emily said she didn't know what Florence was up to, so if she is playing Glastonbury (as there's almost no UK festivals left for her to play), then Emily wasn't telling the truth.

based on what Emily said, FATM aren't at Glastonbury.

But she could have booked her after that comment. Stevie wonder style

U think pearl jam would go down better on the large scale? Ur off your head

That's not what I said and I admit I was being subjective.

There are lots of acts who would go probably go down better and who I also don't think should be anywhere near the Pyramid Stage.

Foo Fighters might go down a storm, but personally I think that's a bad indictment on the state of high profile rock bands at the minute.

i think they have a fairly big cult fanbase, in that their fans are MEGA fans, but outside of that nah, i don't think there's much room for casual listening, which is why i can't see them ever being booked for another UK fest apart from Download or Sonisphere one year (as well as IOW which they did a couple of years back).

Good summation. I know I'm about as biased as Guy on this, being a massive fan. It's sadly true that most people are aware of ten and maybe a couple of tracks off versus at best, however they are a great live band with a massive catalogue of great songs (check out rearviewmirror their greatest hits collection, it's all winners).

I'm prepared to take those "I don't know what Florence is up to" words as either a statement that's about more than just Glasto, or as a necessary deception with running the fest rather than "Emily not telling the truth". After all, she's placed in a difficult position via the questions she gets asked.

I'm expecting Florence to be playing but not headlining, and I won't be thinking of Emily as a liar on the basis i've said just above if that's how it is.

well classifying Radio 1's Big Weekend as a festival is a debatable, but either way, it's irrelevant as Emily said she didn't know what she was doing.

if we take Emily at her word, then FATM aren't booked for Glastonbury in any capacity.

if they're subbing, then Emily wasn't telling the truth.

and if people believe that FATM are subbing, then they shouldn't have any reason to necessarily trust Emily's "she's not headlining" part of the conversation either.

I know I'm late to the party with this one but Lollapalooza have Paul McCartney, Metallica and Florence headlining (kind of surprises me that Flo is on par with the other two..).

Just found that quite interesting.

headliners also include The Weeknd, TV On the Radio, DFA1979, Tame Impala, ASAP Rocky, Flying Lotus, Hot Chip and The War On Drugs (according to articles i'm seeing) so i wouldn't read too much in to it

edit: oh wait never mind, she is one of the headliners. hmm

Flo headlining a massive US festival definitely reeks of her being bumped up because someone pulled out!

This is quite late for lolla to announce right? Considering Flo is subbing every other U.S. fest it's definitely a bit surprising to see her topping the bill at one of the biggest ones and subbing the rest of them...

I find this "Emily is a liar" thing absolutely hilarious.

Why? Both her albums have done well there and shes been nominated for Grammy Awards.

Arctic Monkeys headlined Lolla and subbed Bonnaroo. They have like six headliners which is more than most so they have to bump some up.

well yes, i think it's a necessary deception, but she wasn't asked, she brought it up herself.

my point is that if we're taking what Emily literally said as truth, then FATM aren't at Glastonbury.

It's just the fact that the three biggest U.S. festivals are coachella, bonnaroo and lolla and she's playing all three but lolla is the only one she's headlining + playing lower at the other two. Edited by Matt42

because the others managed to bag acts bigger than her whereas Lola didn't?

    • A question has crossed my (questionable) mind;   Has the size of the Green Fields remained the same as other areas have expanded / been added on to, since say, 2014 (the last time that I attended)? Are they 'lost' within, or well attended?    That's actually two questions. The second one just slipped in at the end by taking advantage of my lack of means to stop it.
    • I'd say the same about Kylie.    Annie would be awesome, Duran not so much, and on the issue of them wanting a beanie slot, that probably rules out a fair few others who I think would fit the bill very well... and are legitimately more entitled to a headline, and/or too expensive.   Was just about to suggest Chaka Khan, but see @Gnomicide has beat me to it!    What about someone like Bryan Ferry?
    • It's certainly gone more that way, but then they went completely in the opposite direction and had Cat Stevens.
