The Horrors

I am really looking forward to seeing them but have been concerned that in the daylight their set might just lose something - saw them on TV in a great dark and atmospheric set at Radio 6 Music festival......

So am very pleased to find out they are at O2 Academy in Bristol on 1st October, I presume as part of a tour.

Thought I would let you know.

never seen The Horrors before but them being on in the middle of the day is gonna be weird. them being on Other was inevitable, but i thought they'd be getting a later slot - third from top (which i guess they may well do, although with the Other already looking rather top heavy, unlikely). just makes them a less likely clash though which is always good

new album doesn't seem to have taken off as much as i thought it would. even the reviews are a bit more lukewarm than i was expecting considering i think it's their best album

I wouldn't say Other was inevitable; they can still play John Peel and it would've been a lot nicer if they did. It's the most curious thing though that they seem to get decent chart positions and reviews on their albums and seem ever growing in popularity but their venues and festival placings stay the same. Still looking forward to the Other Stage slot and if that's good I may invest in this, or one of the dozen other tours they do of this album.

Think I'll probably end up missing them on the other stage and end up getting tour tickets.

My girlfriend doesn't like them to much and I don't think to a neutral they will come across as being that good outdoors mid afternoon..! If there's no clash I'll still be there.

Love the new album aswell track 1 is epic.

they could've done John Peel, but i knew they wouldn't. agree about their positioning on lineups though. i think they've pretty much hit their peak of popularity now though so are forever doomed to play these mid-slots - their new material may be miles better but they don't have the hype surrounding them that they had during Strange House (or their massive change in sound with Primary Colours). their sound hasn't changed much with the new album and so it arrived with not much fan fair (and i guess leaking two months before it was released didn't help)

i am just getting into these guys. i tried 'primary colours' when it came out, but didn't give it enough time.

listening to 'skying' now and love it.

there's not enough modern psych around. i like a lot of psych with wild guitar solos (like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyE9FM2Y7as), but the horrors are far more refined...

Yeah its an odd slot for them to have, they was brilliant in the NME tent in 2012. (Only saw them as I got bored of the Black Keys but it changed my opinion on them). I think part of the reason that was so well, was that it starting to get darker and it was in the tent, they had an atmosphere about them with the lights and smoke machines.

Will go see as I am intrested to see how it translate to mid afternoon on the other stage but maybe they see it as getting more exposure than going up against bigger bands when playing the park or JPT?

Haha how many Horrors threads are there now?

I've seen them a few times on an outdoor stage in the daytime (Wireless 2011 comes to mind, I'm sure there have been others too) and they work pretty well there, although not as good as in a tent. I'll be there and enjoying myself at the front anyway.

I've seen the Horrors twice, in the Park in 2009 and they were great, and also at Ally pally supporting Florence and they were good then, not sure how they'd come over in the day but they do have a good enough repertoire now to carry it off I reckon.

I'm fairly sure I heard that their slot headlining The Park last year was pretty sparsely-attended. Granted they were up against some pretty stiff competition, but I dunno if they quite have the numbers on their side to be leaping into anywhere more prestigious than that.

    • I did get a little amusement at the idea that Infantino was upset Trump stood him up for the US opener last night given how hard he's been trying to get in his good books.   Tbf, I thought the Canadian roar at their equaliser was decent volume. Or maybe I just had my phone at a higher volume for it when I watched the highlights this morning.
    • Wonder if they’d ever headline Glasto again.  Would be very different a 2nd time around I reckon.
    • My mate is there now. She enjoyed them a lot but had never seen them before. Apparently there was an injury in the crowd near the end so took about 10 or so minutes to sort out. Hope the person is alright.    Feeder apparently drew a ridiculously huge crowd on the third stage.
    • This was never a surprise.   I'm hoping USA meet and lose to Iran in round of 16, just to really wind up Trump.
    • Watched this this morning -  absolute brilliance -  live show is peaking
