Probably sings better than most 68 year old women.

quite possibly.

But if you've seen them a few times over the years, it becomes obvious that she doesn't sing as well as her younger self.

It might well be the case that those who've not seen them before don't notice tho. It's not like she's dreadful, just that she isn't what she was.

Well quite. I'm just not really into this whole fetish for reformed bands churning out the old hits about 30 years after they ceased to be in any way exciting. There are obviously exceptions and remarkable musicians who defy age, but the whole thing has become a bit of a gravy train, hasn't it?

to be fair, Blondie isn't part of the current "let's reform and make some money" thing.

I think they did have a decade's break or so but they've been a working band again for at least 15 years. New material back at that point, and a new album due imminently (and quite possibly stuff bewteen those, i've no idea).

And of course their 'classic' hits are crackin' tunes, some of the very best of their era. If you were a teenager back then there was nothing more exciting to teenagers as a whole than a new Blondie release (and I say that as someone who didn't care for them at that time).

I am sure she/they looked terrible on TV last year (Can't remember what fest it was I was watching).

That said I like their songs and if nothing else was taking my fancy at the time I'd be willing to give them a chance. So not the most exciting booking in the world for me, but decent enough.

for what it's worth... that's my opinion, which I don't believe IS worth very much, I saw Blondie 2 or 3 times in their heyday. And tbh, even at their peak, they were very unimpressive (one of the shows they were supporting Television, so they were on a hiding to nothing that night!). I think Debbie Harry is one of THEE most beautiful women to walk this earth. BUT, she was a less than average front person. The recordings, some of them, were great, but they weren't a 'great' live band

for me

I saw her once, walking down Shaftesbury Avenue. Pink hair, just drop dead beautiful. And how she supported Chris through his illness was very heart warming. Seemingly, a lovely person.

I think I know what you mean, I often think Alison Goldfrapp is the modern day Debbie Harry. I'm not sure why exactly. A female front'man' who is clearly incredibly talented and beautiful, but just seems uncomfortable with the whole front'man' thing, they really just want to go on with what they are good at, and feel uncomfortable with interacting with a large crowd in from of them, but I love them both, and will certainly watch Blondie, and I suspect Goldfrapp, at Glaston this year. They other have beautiful, but very different, voices

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
