spent a lot of time in hell last year, didn't venture in to heaven once. we had in our heads you had to take your shoes off to go in heaven, was that true? miss out on a lot of tents as my mate pretty much chain smokes.

Hi Guys,

Last year was my first glastonbury and have since fallen in love and become obssessed with the festival. One place i loved was Shangri La, i only managed to go there on the thursday night though, every other time i tried to go there it was blocked off because of how busy it was and you were looking atleast a 45min wait. Could any of you experts advise what days or times are best to get myself down there? Absolutely loved the lab rat last year and Bez's Acid House but didnt get chance to explore much else down there

Straight after the headliner is the worse time to go as that's when all the "walk through tourists" go. Either go whilst a headliner is on if you're not bothered about them, or go check out something else for a couple of hours after the headliner (the greenfields and/or the Park for example) and head down about half one and the tourists will have gone.

Definitely don't go straight after the headliners or you'll be queuing for ages. We usually go back to the tent, grab some more drinks, chill out for a bit then head in at like 1/2am when there's much less of a queue and most of the stuff is kicking off.

Also glad that they're making hell bigger than heaven, we queued for over an hour to get into heaven and it really wasn't that amazing once we were in, put the snakepit somewhere else or maybe just make it more accessible somehow because it really didn't seem worth it

i went to my first glasto expecting to shangri la to be my favorite of the late night areas mainly as it had the most hype on here, throughly enjoyed it but admittedly i only spent time at hell stage and didnt find/enter ther micro venues or heaven i really wanted to go to the snake pit.

The common was actually my favorite late night area followed by Block9 then shagri la then unfairground, this year im gonna do a bit more searching in shang

I think shangri-la appears to get the most hype because it's often used as a catch-all term for the entire SE corner.

I'm sure there's plenty more & they change.

I remember one venue had a rain forest in it, flowing waterfall & a real python. Then again I could have been tripping balls & dreamt that.

I don't spend much time in the SE corner, but I've been impressed at how The Common has developed- it was quite bland the first year, but looks very impressive these days.

Does anyone know where the Snake Pit is? There's a few things I wouldn't mind catching in there but I haven't come across it before I don't think...

i went after the stones, well took a detour to my tent for some jd then watched some power rangers and a granny on a stage outside, when we finally decided to give it a whirl it said something like 45min wait , but just walked straight in

What makes me anxious about Shangri La is that it's not big enough to accommodate its visitors, and some of its installations are too small to hold more than a few hundred people max, so it gets an elitist feel and generates queues, which I can't be bothered with late at night.

Is there a good time to hit it? (I'm guessing shortly before the main stages end). Is there a strategy to avoid the bottlenecks?
