It was never there. The two things that were there were, and still are, this line from the Alice In Chains announcement:

Like Iron Maiden and Metallica, seminal American rockers Alice in Chains will be making their only UK festival appearance of 2014 at Knebworth

and this one, from their original announcement:

Iron Maiden and Metallica, the two biggest metal bands on the planet, will make history this summer when they co-headline the Sonisphere Festival in Knebworth, the very first time both bands have appeared together on a British bill, and the ONLY CONCERTS EITHER BAND WILL PLAY IN THE UK IN 2014.

The word 'exclusive' was never in there, as dissected earlier in the thread.

just looked through all of those By Request things now and they're all awful and exactly what you'd get with an average Metallica show. i get that if you see Metallica, you want to see Master Of Puppets etc, but i didn't think people would be voting so highly for Sad But True, Fuel etc. can't believe The Frayed Ends Of Sanity is only in like one of the setlists

We've already gone through this in detail, but if Soni had them specifically booked as an exclusive then they'd be screaming that from the rooftops. Using 'only UK show/concert/festival' looks like they weren't specifically booked as exclusives but as it turns out it's their only show (or the organisers thought it was at the time) and they took advantage of that in the PR. They don't have to be specifically booked as an exclusive for it to be their only UK show, it could just work out that way, but then it's risky using that in your advertising if you haven't got a contract to stop them announcing others.

Of course that could be bollocks and maybe those particular promoters/organisers don't like using the work 'exclusive', although if that's the case you have to ask why when it's used by the rest of the festival industry.

And yes if they've gone quiet on that front it may suggest that they've been told Metallica are playing another show since the original articles, but that wouldn't explain why they aren't pushing Maiden's only UK show in the latest announcement.

Arcade Fire, Elbow, Kasabian looks like a pretty weak set of headliners - i don't think anybody can deny that. Metallica may not be what you'd expect from a Glasto headliner, but at least it's something a bit exciting, Arcade Fire, Elbow and Kasabian is as beige a set of headliners as you can get

Ah okay, makes more sense now. Yeah, I wondered at the time whether it was just coincidental that Metallica were only set to play Sonisphere at the time of the announcement and planned to play more or whether there was an actual case of exclusivity.

as i'm not a fan, i'd be more into that than i am the idea of a usual metallica set.

however, i'd take either above coldplay. they'd hardly make the headliner list read any less beige than elbow would.
