I agree they should find a niche between the two, but maybe that's what they'll be doing? All I was saying was these are the bands who going by previous years are likely to play. Maybe they will throw in some more "curveballs" like The Joy Formidable, but it's hard to say at this stage.

They should be tying up their bands like The Joy Formidable and Cage The Elephant and competing with R&L instead of putting on the same shitty predictable bands lower down the undercard. Sounds like they just want to put on another version of Download, which wasn't a great long-term model for success last time.

I think it was always somewhat their intention to sit somewhere between the two, but it just so happened for whatever reason, maybe because of K2's influence or whatever else the line ups ended up more a counter to Download than R/L's. Could also have been due to the issues in 2009 from a bunch of smaller bands who ended up leaving to do Reading and Leeds instead - though the only big one from that list was Frank Turner, there seemed to be a lot more beef between exclusivity between Reading and Soni earlier on, Reading in 2010 made sure they got to announce Pendulum first despite them doing both events, which left a sub spot on Soni's line up for ages which looked pretty bad...but at least they agreed to share someone

They've had bands like Weezer and Placebo high up, and with the comedy and things like late night bands/DJ's which you don't get at DL I guess it's in some ways it's not really a carbon copy of DL, but hopefully they branch out a bit more to a middle ground if the festival does end up making a decent comeback.

If it's boring old Metallica and Maiden I guess it'll be to try and hoover up those disappointed with Download's announcements and use those sales as a solid foundation to build on.

I guess either 'more than Soni' meant outsisde of the UK or this PR is bollocks.

The info I heard is of another UK date for Metallica, being announced later this week (I don't know what).

While I can't guarantee that's accurate, it's pretty unusual for something like this tit-bit to be wrong.

We'll get to find out later this week, by whether or not there is another UK date announced

(I'd never place 100% faith in what any press release says, because there's a history of them sometimes telling porkies).
