So how is Silver Hayes?

I didn't go last year and have only just found out that the Dance Field has been 'upgraded' to Silver Hayes... I always liked the Dance field it was like a less extreme (and less busy) version of the naughty corner but it felt incredibly baron and dated compared to the rest of the festival (much like the acoustic stage/cinema area) and it some how felt out of place? From what I've seen the Silver Hayes stage's presence alone fixes that, is it a huge improvement or is just a minor upgrade because I always liked myself a little daytime dance when I was passing threw, dem beats be infectious y'all!

Was my 1st time last year so I cant compare to previous festivals but I did spend a lot of my time in Silver Hayes, the line up was incredible! Was great but it had a couple of issues. The main issue was that the stages were too close together so you could hear the surrounding stages. The sound at the Sonic stage was the worst sound of any stage I have ever been to, could hardly hear it. Think there might have been headphones to wear(silent disco style)? Regardless, can't wait until I'm there again next year :)

Personally the whole of the Silver Hayes area didn't really work for me. Far, FAR too much sound bleed (to the point where i gave up on a couple of things i wanted to see as i couldnt get right in the tent and could therefore hear three other things but not the thing I'd actually gone to see!) and the only place on the entire site that felt soulless and empty, despite being mostly packed. And horrible crushes at the John Peel end at peak times.

I loved the reggae additions though - The Blues was my favourite thing in the whole of Glastonbury last year.

The rest of it seemed to be full of people who were completely off their faces. I have always loved dance music, and there has always been drugs associated with that scene, but this was different for me. Where people used to smile at each other, and move together to one beat, there were people flailing about, pushing, shoving, nudging, stamping on others seemingly without any perception that other people actually existed in the same space. I felt about 104, & that 1988 was possibly a million years ago. To be fair it probably was before many of these Glastonbury goers were born - I am old, & the new generation are entitled to enjoy the festival in their own way. However, it is only a couple of years since I could have a great time in that area of the site, it was all a bit of a let down for me.

I love walking through the Dance Village on the way to other stages. It's nice to hear all sorts of different music going on and I love the all-day party vibe. It did feel different this year, however. The crushes from the John Peel stage once bands had finished on there was AWFUL. It also felt a bit "separate" from the rest of the festival - I got the impression that certain people just spent their whole time there, gurning in the middle of it all.

I thought it looked far more pleasing to the eye than it had in previous years - can't comment on much more than that as we just used it as a cut through to John Peel mostly - we did stop for 5 or 10 minutes at each stage the first time we passed through & I liked the idea of the Blues & Gully.

Never really spent much time at the Dance village in previous years either so can only say it's an improvement aesthetically!

We walked through it loads of times as we were camped in Bushy Ground and would use it as a cut through to get to anywhere in the top half of the site. As others have said there was far too many stages cramped into too small an area - we didn't even bother going into a single one.

Agreed with the comment on the coconut stall - that was pretty cool. I reckon they should move the BBC Introducing stage out of that area to free up space as it doesn't really "fit" with the area anyway - although I have no idea where else it could go?

It was a bit dressier than normal, but yeah it didn't feel the nicest place to hang about at most stages.

Once you get inside, the La Pussy Parlure Nouveau had to be one of the most soulless places I've ever been even outside of Glastonbury. Terrible venue.

Thought the Gully/Blues were excellent to look at and Dub Pistols actually had a decent friendly crowd when I was there for that. Really liked the idea of the Blues (I think that's the right way around) with the higher up stand around it turning it into its own little arena. (Bit like the Cave in the naughty corner was, really liked the idea of the audience being on different levels to each). They seemed like they would fit better over in the naughty corner tbh.

Went through dance field once this year - more to tick the box than anything else (was on the way to John Peel). Will avoid in 2014 if I can. Blues/Gully looked & sounded great but the rest was hellish. I'd happily put the entire dance area as far out as possible after seeing it this year.
