2014 Headliner predictions

DM would make a terrific Other header NOT a Pyramid one. Not that I know much about them they seem to not really have enough of a wider appeal to headline Pyramid. Although they have strong following I think that they have a limited fan base. Totally the opposite to the headliners this year. Despite that they I presume have a terrific show they scream Other and whisper Pyramid to me.

I pretty much agree with you - but I think it's hugely unlikely that they'd consider headlining Other, given their profile & history on a world scale.

(That aside, the info I have from more than one source is that they were asked to headline).

And while they're perhaps not the most obvious choice, they are a band with plenty of very well known songs which gives them the ability to more than justify a Pyramid headlining slot (as long as they do the business on the day of course).

It's one of those bookings which (if it does actually happen) stands a chance of looking weak-ish in advance and genius in hindsight.

Just to make clear, I'm not a fan at all, and have no personal interest in seeing them - I can just see the logic around booking them to headline (if what I've heard is true, of course).

As mentioned before, it's a smart, legacy-building move on the part of the Mode. If they feel hard done by in the UK then it's the perfect opportunity to grab themselves a bit of limelight and show their homeland what they're capable of and why they're so adored abroad.

(Also not a fan and will almost certainly be elsewhere when they do play).

That's kinda the issue though.

How many people even knew "Just can't get enough" was DM? They've been around so long and gone through enough changes there really is something for everyone, but it's just not out there and known about. People know them as club remixes or covers, samples in other records.... It's partially their own fault - they choose dreadful singles to release on the whole - and that they've been around so long there's no way Radio 1 will give them decent airtime unless they'd already got a pretty high slot.

Last time I remember that happening was with "Wrong" which was quite popular and got radio play, then they were back on whacky singles that probably went down well in the rest of Europe but entirely missed the UK pop-taste.

I'm a little upset at them for it tbh!

Just for comparisons and high jinxs who was actually listening to Bowie's bizzare contempory output when he did his spectacular Pyramid headline set? Though I did fancy hearing "I'm afraid of Americans" with some proper bass...

In all fairness dude, i thought for Neil, this would of been obvious. and to add to that, DM are one of the suggested bands in all that IOW spec, a further person on here also having info on DM for IOW and Neil knowing of his source as well so there is something legit there.

Kinda why I thought to Neil, why are you laughing at me?

So its bollocks that i predicted the stones roses a year in advance for iow festival.

it's bollocks is that you "predicted it". You guessed at every possible headline act in the world, and couldn't 9n all reasonableness fail to get some of those guesses right.

I predict that every headliner of every festival over 15,000 capacity will be headlined next year by one of the 50,000 bands in the efestivals performers database.

Do I get a prize for my correct predictions, or am I gazza?

Didn't want a prize lol. Not for IOW I didn't. I said The Stone Roses and The Killers very early,

I'm going to end this now as I don't expect you to ever accept that an original guess is mine. You have your ego, you believe I have mine so that's that.
