I think they'll play more of a first team on Wednesday than they would if AVB was still in charge - no manager, caretaker or not, wants to start with a defeat, and a place in a semi-final is up for grabs.

As for long term improvement, I hope not!

while i've always thought that AVB looked waaaay out of his depth both at Chelsea and Spurs, I don't think there's any great mileage to be got from many of those new players.

I guess it's a worry for any team that's trying for top 4 that Spurs have changed manager tho, cos they're till close enough for a not-massive upturn in form to put them back in the mix.

The media were never going to take to the man who took Arrys job, but AVB had a tendancy to get far too defensive and could have dealt with them better. The funny thing is if Madrid had decided to go after Suarez instead of Bale (something out of either Liverpool or spurs control) the table could look very different, but that's football sometimes things work in your favour and sometimes they don't.

As for AVB his win ratio means he will probably get another opportunity at a big(ish) club. I think he will probably be better off going abroad now he has made enough money to retire quite happily. I think a slower/more tactical league may suit him better.

And yet .... when Liverpool spent £100M after having sold their best player - and in a worse league position than Spurs were this summer - the cry from all directions was that they should be storming to the top of the Prem immediately, because that sort of upgrade should only bring indisputable success. Kenny was an imbecile to make that spend and get nowhere.

While there's been a lot of laughter at AVB and Spurs, there's been nothing like the same. Anyone might think that those who made those comments about Liverpool but who made very different comments about Spurs have nothing to say worth listening too. ;)

What the fuck?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25418135

I get the argument behind it, but surely this would just lead to mass inflation of wages, endless tapping up, and ultimately, best support the clubs with large status who could pay the highest wages, and the agents that will do the donkey work for them.

Surely it can't happen?
