MEGABOWL
I can see exactly why this has been issued. I work in risk management and one of the mantras is "if it's not in writing it didn't happen". GFL need to show - in writing - that they are enforcing their policy regards reasonable consumption of alcohol on site and preventing the illegal sale of alcohol. If something then does happen (an arrest for drunk & disorderly or an alcohol related accident for instance) then the organisers can point to this as part of their attempts to discharge their duty of care to the attendees and enforce policy and hence defend their position. If I was advising the organisers I would have told them to do exactly this, but I would have worded it better.
eFestivals
Time will tell - its bound to come. not claiming it will be GFL wish but I bet Mendip District Council will push for it.at other fests it seems to have been the old bill that have pushed for crack-downs on under-age drinkers, rather than the council (but of course the old bill's view comes back at the fest via the council). TRIS G
The site security are the biggest bunch of thieving w*nkers on site since the fence went up. They'll be rubbing their hands together at the thought of confiscating drink of young kids.....
eFestivals
- why did seetickets send the email not the fest itself?because See Tickets have the always-up-to-date list of ticket-buyers, as well as the technical facilities to be able to send the mailer (the technical requirements aren't great, but still quite possibly more than the festival itself has). incident
"If we suspect you of intending to sell alcohol on the site, your alcohol may be confiscated" is a valid way of warning people
chris_top_her
It seems silly - Most people wheel them in as they are bringing it in for a few people! It was a nightmare wheeling in 2011 when carrying bags anyway - Might just make a couple of trips!
knivesout
this really is gonna cause a nightmare it's actually something that has honestly given my day a bad start - being patronised and limited by the festival in this way just leaves a sour taste and has never previously been their style at all
pedmills
Scare tactic or not, if the 'wheeled device' message is seen in any sort of instructions or guidelines handed down to security, it will be enforced by at least some of them. Could be a pretty shit start to the festival for many.
Handsomedavo
So as long as I can carry my 136 cans of strongbow that's fine, but if I carry 24 on a sack trolley that's tough luck!! Bad times
Jeffbain
If I wasn't in Tangerine I would be well pissed off with this. Can't see them actually enforcing it as it would cause a riot.
MEGABOWL
I'm amused at the amount of people still saying they don't believe this email is real. Of course it's real. And for people saying it'll be chaos to enforce, not really... all they have to do is say "go back to the car with it or dump it there" - not hard to enforce at all. As to whether it's right or not... I can understand them wanting to stop people selling it on site, but if you've got a smallish amount but it happens to be on wheels, stopping you bringing it in seems ridiculously draconian. Zoo Music Girl
I've not had the email yet but it seems a bit unfair to impose restrictions so late in the day when most people will have bought all their booze already. Not sure why they would bring up the wheel thing if they didn't mean it? It won't affect me personally as I don't drive and can only bring what I can carry anyway (not much). A bad experience with a bringing a wheelbarrow put me off for life! But seems a total pain for everyone else. I wonder if they'll enforce it at the train station/drop-off point too? I.e. Not letting people even bring their trollies.
Who2002uk
It's a largely unenforceable way of warning people that's far too subjective. It's much more sensible to have a firm standard in writing, and then ignore it at your discretion.

Superscally
Sounds like a roundabout way of cracking down on bootleggers. 2 crates of 24 cans a person would be about the most anyone could carry, and that would be about the most that you could claim is for personal use over 5 days. I guess if you have a trolley full of booze between a few of you it might be best to make sure you enter together to explain to security that its not just for one person. mail1234
There'll probably be some inventive ways that people try to get around this which I'm looking forward to seeing. scaryclaireyfairy
i just have a nasty feeling that the no wheels is the thin edge of a 'one slab only on first entry only' type wedge to come. i don't want to think that. but then i never thought we'd get bizarre scare tactics like this from the festival either.
