Crowd numbers at main stages

In various threads people say "Band Y" is too big to play such-and-such a stage. It got me wondering what would be the maximum number of people who could (safely) watch an act at any of the main stages. I know there are loads of variables for the outdoor stages but I'm curious nonetheless.

from what i know, the capacity of the pyramid is about 100k, Other is about 60k, West Holts is about 40k, JPT is about 20k.

Hmm, those numbers look a bit high to me, I'd guestimate 90k for Pyramid, 50k Other, 30k West Holts, 10k JPT. And maybe 3k Park?

There's probably a difference between design capacity and real capacity. Park could take way more than 3K people, surely? (Think Pulp)

Has the Other Stage ever really been properly put to the test to this 60K ceiling? Arcade Fire in 2007 springs to mind as a really full field. Bar that though?

i think thats why they are rethinking the special guest thing cos that was a night mare AND i was walking in the opposite direction [ cant stand him ] but the crowd trying to get to the park was really crazy .

as for other stages ie pyramid / other there is nearly always enough room may be a bit further back but room all the same ....few exceptions off top of my head Paul simon ...pyramid stage mad

I never really stopped to think about it to be honest. But the figure that has shocked me so far in this thread is JPT 20k?? Really?

Pulp and Radiohead at The Park in 2011 was mental, they were closing the gates to stop people getting in, I dont think they could have fitted many more people in, and then there was a mad rush out at the end of Radiohead to get to the Pyramid for U2.

Rolf Harris on West Holts in 2010 I think, whole field was completely full and they were back into the field behind, someone said 40000 were there for that.

Sunday on the Pyramid in 2011, Paul Simon, Plan B, Pendulum, I have never seen so many people there, must have been 80000 at least. Didnt Beyonce say she had got 150000, I think she was exaggerating slightly

That Pulp gig was a nightmare, I was camped in Pennards and they wouldnt let me go up the path to get to my tent!! I had to go a bit further up the fireld and weave in through loads of peoples camps, just to get back home to meet people. The crowd was MASSIVE. I didnt go, I was going somehwere else, but we were astonished at the size of the crowd.

Rolf at West Holts was 2009 I think, it was rammed. Bloody good fun though!

I was working in the Park bar when Pulp played and managed to nip out for the last few songs, the area towards the Bimble Inn was basically empty, it was absolutely packed up towards the Tipi fields though
