Nal,, just coming at this from a different perspective, I do think that you're a bit wide of the mark here.

Mariah hasn't had a hit in donkeys years here in the UK and is not the force she once was. I can't see the same crowds who would troop in for the other three pop females you mentioned making the same effort for Mariah...

Also Lady Gaga, much as I'm not especially a fan, has as much if not more to do with her hits than Mariah. On top of this Mariah's amazing vocal range has gone to pot really... she is not the draw she once was - as they are Beyonce kills Mariah vocally. For these reasons I can't see her shifting too many tickets to the type of crowd you might not be so fond of.

It's an odd one for me as she feels too 'over' to headline but too 'big' to play the legends slot. I can't see her being there personally.

Since 2008 she's released 12 singles according to her Wikipedia discography... 2 made the top 10 (in 2008 and 2009) - of the other 10, only half of those even made the top 100... 2 of those being bang on No.100.

Really can't see it being headliner. This is with the exception of All I Want For Christmas Is You... unless she plans on playing that a lot haha

I saw this yesterday in the Evening Standard. Seemed to mention it referred to ME being keen and her not dismissing it.

My reading at the time was that she wouldn't be expected to headline.

It reminds me a little bit of the Jay-Z booking in that I'm concerned that ME may be confusing the fact that she WAS the biggest female act in the world for a while with the idea that she is. Ultimately Jay-Z had the talent to ensure that it didn't matter that he was no longer the top wrapper, I don't think Mariah Carey does.

Mickey Eavis' singing performance was better when he came on with Stevie Wonder. Jay-Z also seems to think Wonderwall is played around the 15th fret on the guitar. Which is a genuine concern for the music industry considering he is so powerful.

Indeed.

I refuse to let the passing of time cloud the issue on this one.

Let us be in no doubt about it, he was utter, utter shit and comfortably the worst headliner in the history of the festival.

I wasnt there to see shakespears sister or rod stewart, but I have no doubt they were infinitely superior.

Jay Z was complete poo-plops.

I saw Jay Z, Oasis 2004, Moby 2003, Gorillaz, and Rod Stewart from the same vantage point (the TV) and I can confidently say you're wrong. U2 had a good stab at it. In fact I'm not even convinced he's the worst Glastonbury headliner in his house....

the 'Mariah headlining' story seems to be spreading like wildfire. my god i hope it's not true. well, actually, i couldn't give a fuck if it's true or not, but i'd find it bizarre if the organisers have actually gone to her to headline

Maria has a new album.

I have a strong suspicion that there's zero substance to the Glasto story, but that some sneaky PR person realised that they'd succeed in getting her name - and mention of a new album - in the papers if they included the glasto word.

    • Well worth watching and the 2 Punisher series can be viewed alone, season 1 being the better one but both pretty good.   Bernthal's Frank Castle first showed up in Daredevil in a couple of episodes before the standalone Netflix Punisher series then popped up again in Daredevil: Born Again before this years One Last Kill and Spider-Man. To be honest all those old Marvel Netflix shows from the Defenders universe are worth a watch. I recently went through them all in order and really enjoyed.

    • Hello eFestivals.   Some of you may remember a vehement poster of these parts who posted by the name of @Mash011 mainly in the 2010s.   Unfortunately he sadly passed away a couple of years back but today would have been his birthday and I think it’s only right that his old friends from the forum pay tribute to him (I’m his brother and I know he didn’t have many friends outside of this place).   Please join me in wishing a happy birthday to deadly departed beloved ex-poster @Mash011.   Happy birthday!
