oh absolutely it's considered prestigeous for an act to play it now - tho of course many of those acts are using Glasto at the same time. i'd say that U2 played because they felt it would give them a credibility boost, for example.

This is a bit of a tenuous link, but it kinda makes my point about management. For many years (am now retired from it!), I was a touring DJ, around Europe & beyond. I had numerous managers through that time. My last two managers didn’t just get me gigs, they got me record deals (dance music), interviews, magazine coverage, basically anything which would increase my profile while not necessarily earning them money. The point being, the more PR, the bigger the bandwagon, hopefully the bigger the gigs and the more money would come.

Unless Fleetwood Mac have agents who purely do their bookings and nothing else (and it’s them that pull the strings when it comes to festivals), then their management will be doing anything to maximise the potential of the tour and beyond.

It's different I'd say with bands like FM, the Stones, AC/DC, etc. They are basically retired bands who get together every now and then and do a bit of work for one reason or another.

Because of those bands profile, they just have to let the world know they're working and the millions comes flooding in. They don't need publicity, they don't need to do interviews, etc - they can just do the bits they like as much as they like.

I think it says something too. The job of a good tribute band is to sound exactly like the artist(s) they are imitating and usually they are required to sound exactly like the best-selling recording of the most popular songs. They cannot vary from that or people would think they were crap.

I don't want that, I want a one-off performance by the people who were creative enough to come up with the stuff in the first place and great/good enough that their stuff made an impact. I want a performance that will never be exactly repeated again by people who are talented and original enough to allow it to be different each time - and rarely straying into crapness!

Was hoping for a little more progression on the rumour by now....we're not even in strong rumour territory yet.

Stevie Nicks was asked in an interview last week (published in The Guardian) about the Glasto rumour and she "....was non committal, but said again that they would love to play"

Not much to go on is it?

Still, if they are coming to UK, hopefully I can catch them at another gig anyway. They're on my bucketlist.

The Guardian were simply re-quoting her previous statement from last month. They left it deliberately vague so as to make it appear like she said it directly at them. Lazy journalism.

The Guardian article says just one headliner is booked.

Along with other stuff that's flowed into my inbox, that pretty much says to me that Fleetwood Mac are not planned to be one of the headliners (tho things might change with that).

And it explains why I've been struggling to find out who the third headliner is - it's because there is no third headliner yet.
