Good band at one time, recent stuff is pretty dire. Would be a good booking, for a Sunday afternoon, same sort of times they had Don Mclean and Ray Davies on in past years, but i would imagine they would only want the top spots, which would be a total waste. I would aslo imagine to get them would be very expensive, they don't strike me as a band who would give a toss for Glastonbury. Would love to see a old FM with Peter Green, John McVie and Mick Fleetwoot, and yes i do know that would never happen...: (

Saw them in 2009 at Wembley and they were fricking great. Maybe they're not as intense or spritely as they used to be (they're getting on) but as far as putting on a show they greatly exceeded my expectations, tight as fuck and Stevie's voice was simply amazing. Considering their back catalogue, history and how good they are, I would doubt they'd do anything less then headline the Pyramid.

Just read this on Classic rock's website.

Fleetwood Mac will tour next year, Stevie Nicks has confirmed. She reports: “We go into rehearsals around the end of February. If everything goes to plan we should probably be on the road by April or May, I would think.”

Gives it a bit more chance that they might end up playing.

I guess times have changed and arguably the potential knock-on from a good Glastobury headline performance is worth more in terms of additional record sales and appearance money elsewhere than it ever has.

If it's a straight forward commercial decision, and it seems like it is for the likes of FM, The Stones etc, then that could definitely change their willingness to play.

I find it a bit sad but I guess for some artists it's all about the money. For others it's about prestige.

Yeah it's a shame. Now I think about the £2m figure may have been the Eagles. I agree though, and given that the combination of money, prestige, commercial positives and credibility have been enough for some very big artists in the last few years it seems a shame that for some it's just about the mazoola. FM would be a cracking Glastnobury headliner

Why? Money?

Out of the blue a few years ago - when no one was mentioning Fleetwood Mac for any reason at all - there was something (I forget what now, I guess someone mailed in a rumour that they'd be playing) which put me on the trail of them. (I have a feeling a tour was imminent).

I managed to get someone in the states who is in contact with the band to check out what I'd heard, and I was told they'd be at Glastonbury that year - and so I marked them as a TBC.

Some time a little later I was speaking with Michael and the main Glasto booker, and they took the piss out of me about it, saying that they'd not talked to them and Michael said "no one is interested in them any more, are they?".

Since that time there's been a massive build up of interest in them on these forums ... which has me wondering if what I listed has been the cause of that, just as the Dolly Parton thing has worked its way up from something which started here (as a joke originally).

Anyway, while I've not been able to find out the exact reason why I was told what I was about Fleetwood Mac, my presumption is that the band asked their manager to get them Glasto, he implied that he would, and the band took that as it happening. As Glasto never had a convo with them that year, my guess is that their manager didn't want them to do Glasto because it pays only about 10% or 20% of what they could get for shows - and their manager is likely to be on a cut of their show fees.

There's a lot of presumption in there, but it's about the only thing which makes sense of every aspect of what happened.

So they went to Glasto, asked to play and then when they were told the fee they said "err actually. Mick Fleetwood is busy washing his hair that day"?

nah - they had no convo with Glasto from what Glasto told me.

I still think the Beebs coverage and follow on album sales, (2.5m watched Beyonce last year for example) offsets the "cost" of taking less of a fee.

yep - but what you're missing from this is that it's quite likely that the guy who is in charge of putting a tour together gets a cut of the tour fees, but not of the boost to sales. So it's not in that tour manager's interests to book them into small fee shows which would be at the expense of a bigger paying show.

I understand the "jam now" argument from a lot of these old school bands who are used to being fucked over by dodgy promoters in the 70s in back arse America, but surely a modern manager can explain it to them?

Which is why I have more faith in bands like the Stones and the Mac playing, as opposed to pre BBC coverage.

see my words just above for a good reason why it doesn't necessarily work like that.

They're my favourite band, Lindsey is my favourite guitarist, I have 3 tattoos relating to the band!!!

I'd absolutely love them to play.

Check out YouTube for Never Going Back Again from Japan (1979 I think), Lindsey is smashed (it's not big or clever kids! :) ) - but plays like a God - & his voice is epic.

Please please get them Glastonbury!!!!!
