you asked what was all the fuss about, so the people who get what the fuss is about would need to know what you've heard..

try listening to their records, if you don't like them, then why ask?

Gimme Shelter, Jumping Jack Flash, Street Fighting Man, Moonlight Mile, Sympathy For The Devil...

as good as anything, anyone has ever recorded for me

Not a fan of Kanye anyway but caught a fair bit of his set at the Big Chill the other year: one of the worst things I've ever witnessed live! He couldn't entertain a relatively meager crowd there so would struggle with the Pyramid.

And The Strokes were blown out of the water by Pulp at Reading the other year.

All those bands are no doubt amazing, but The Stones did manage to keep churning out No1 singles for over a decade, and number 1 albums for a lot longer. I know the bands you name didn't last as long for a variety of reasons, but you have to admire the Stones' longevity. They make great rock n roll songs that appeal to the masses.

I suppose they are the pop songs of their day and appeal to the masses,I was just saying I dont get them and I dont remember any of my friends being Stones fans

Jedwood do nothing for me either, Discuss...

thats it! the third headliner is now kanye west.

daft as it might seem, that's the one name I've had which seems to make most sense to me right now.

The only other really strong possibility is Mumfords, but various bits and pieces of info I've had about all sorts of Glastonbury stuff suggests to me that it can't be them on the Sunday because Eavis asked some other acts to headline this year after Fleetwood Mac said they couldn't do it - and I'd have thought that Mumfords were already booked to play Glastonbury before Mac said no. Which gets to mean that they're before the Stones and the back-up plan if the Stones don't play.

Then again, maybe i'm putting too much thought into it.

The Stones often seem oddly unpopular for such a big-selling band. Maybe it's because they don't have one obvious 'go to' album a la Sgt. Pepper or Back in Black or what have you. I mean I'll put Exile On Main St in the ring with any album ever made, but it's not exactly bursting with well-known songs. The average spod in the street probably doesn't recognise a track like Happy or Tumbling Dice.

as much as i hate to admit it i would've thought Mumfords would be set in stone as a headliner over Kanye West (and that he would've subbed the Stones), but with the Stones being such a phenomenal pull then maybe Eavis thought getting Mumfords to sub / be a back up would somewhat lessen the blow if the Stones pull out (this is me assuming that a lot of people see Mumfords as a great booking, outside of this forum of course)

Maybe they've moved from being the backup to the Stones to being the replacement for Fleetwood Mac? And when the Stones say no he'll have to start asking around for a Saturday headliner because he's used his Stones backup somewhere else.

Arctic Monkeys-Kasabian-Mumford should keep most people happy.

Mumford, regardless of whether you like them or not, are as strong a Sub-Headliner as you'll ever see. Headlining T in the Park this year, one of the best selling albums in the world last year, they could probably headline if the Eavii wanted them to.

By the way, all this talk of 2008, can we agree now that despite all the controversy, Noel Gallagher might have been right regarding Jay-Z (and I suppose The Verve) being behind the low sales?
