My dislike of him is nothing to do with him not being rock... I'd be happy with Joanna Newsom, Feist, Reggie Watts, Hidden Orchestra, any number of non rock acts. In fact rock comes fairly low on my listening priorities these days

I dont have Youtube available as I'm at work but if you search for George at MEN Arena playing FEAR you'll have a good old chuckle. Proper 'Lounge' style.

I don't mind some of his stuff in the way I can manage a few of Elton John's stuff. My Dad used to play Listen Without Prejudice on our first ever CD player. Decent enough album.

Nor did I accuse anyone of that.

However, the thread of the discourse here has held Wham as being less than authentic for a variety of reasons. You ended up going down some odd tangent of George Michael's worthiness...

The whole thing stinks of a rockist perspective where Joanna Newsom (as per yer example) is deemed "better" than Wham. I challenge that notion.

For me George Michael's best stuff was from " Listen without prejudice and " Older" . I even bought " Older" and still think it's a great album. I just can't see Wham ( ! ) . They were cheesy pop crap until George became a man and grew some, found his true way ( :) ) so too speak. I saw an unplugged live version of " Older" that was amazing. This is when he still had a voice. Wham ( ! ) could never IMO headline.... ever. George Michael , with his own material from those two albums, as i have said , i could see it. Why not? But please not as WHAM!

I'd take Wham's hummable pop froth over George's earnest desperate attempts at seriousness every fucking time. 'Listen without prejudice Vol. 1'. fucking hell, if ever a title could tell you what a tool the artist was.

Again, their record sales and popularity clearly show that they are not "shit" but just not to your tastes. Horses for courses and all that. I strongly dislike Westlife for the record, but I am just not ignorant enough to label them or any other band I dislike "shit" when their success clearly shows that they are not shit.

but this is an age old arguement on these boards, people not recognising pop as a successful genre of music to the masses.

Mick Jagger is probably being a self absorbed bell right now, at this very moment. Alex Turner could be enjoying the smell of his own farts on a nightly basis. Kanye just does it in full view of the public eye. doesn't make everybody else any less of a dickhead than him

    • Not sure what this means for 2027 but it looks like Holt Farm's website and email are both now inactive and unavailable.   It'll be a shame if they don't operate for 2027 as it was an excellent alternative to the other off-site offerings.   Fingers crossed they're just enjoying their downtime 🤞
    • Deftones, Blink, Muse?   Deftones as the next bump up makes all the sense, Blink as the "band that has never played before" and round out with Muse as its been a long time since they headlined and they have a new album coming which seems on the heavier side from the singles so far.   I could see Muse do their own tour to be fair, maybe MCR in their place? Could also see Deftones switched out for Slipknot/SOAD depending on who is about.
    • I have no issue with the Primavera crowd in most respects. They’re always friendly, respectful and no hint that there could be trouble at any point.   However…the talking is horrific here. The xx was pretty much ruined for me due to people having conversations with their mates the whole way through. Noticed it from all different nationalities across the weekend…English, Irish, Spanish etc. There seems to be no understanding of the nuances of when it’s okay to talk and when it isn’t. And obviously the sound being quiet at a lot of spots on the main stages exacerbates the issue. That alone has made me reconsider whether I will be coming back, it would probably take a lineup as good as this year (unlikely)

    • I found the vibe a little different to recent editions.. definitely an older crowd, less queer, less Spanish.. certainly has something to do with the lack of Glastonbury this year. And I felt Saturday was a little overcrowded. I‘ve never seen Mordor as full as last night for the xx and Gorillaz. Did not enjoy that too much.
