They are a proper LAD band aren't they? Good point about being on soundtracks etc, but they are the perfect fit for a football fan who loves a Hackett jacket and a Saturday all-dayer.

Good point about the Dad too, I think the same. My Dad knows a lot more Monkeys than Kasabian but that's down to me ramming them down his throat since they came about.

Coming across a right little Monkeys fanboy in here, which I am, but I genuinely think people would know more of their songs than Kasabian.

Their are horrendous misconceptions about Kasabian simply because Tom is brimming with confidence/arrogance. I put it down to internet forums being full of delicate and sensitive flowers who were picked on at school and who are immediately wary of anything loud and outgoing, and who use stereotyping to snigger at and mock popular culture. Kasabian are far more similar to Primal Scream than they are Oasis.

I saw kasabian in 2009 on the Pyramid, i enjoyed it, they played most of the tunes you would want them to play but i think on that day a lot of their unruly fans made an apperance throwing piss in cups etc, i was fairly near the front and nearly copped it once, not very enjoyable. If its down to the music it's not much of a toss up between the two, i'd avoid Kasabian having already done that, i would want to see Arctics but would be scared that my favorite tunes from the first two albums wouldn't be played. So i guess i would give it a miss all together and find something else.

Was true for the first two albums, the crowd at their gigs during 2006 and 2007 was actually scary at times. There were a lot less Oasis-types (w*nkers) on their late 2011 arena tour. You said earlier that nobody gives a shit about them anymore, but they sell out every gig they do. People on the internet don't often admit to liking them because it hasn't been cool to do so for past few years, but they'll draw a big crowd if they do it.

Just noticed in that article about the Olympic Stadium that the Libertines* are rumoured to be doing it - could be an outside bet for Glastonbury perhaps. Or are they more Other Stage material these days? *(can't stand them myself, but they're a cult thing. Yes I said cuLt)

I went to their gig at Lancashire Cricket Club in 2007 and it was decent but the crowd was truly horrific. Worst I'd been a part of since Oasis (funnily enough) at the same venue back in 2002. That they play Arenas now rather than stadiums suggests to me-along with their recent musical output-they've probably shed a lot of the scallies.

I'd say that Kasabian are 100% Oasis clones - because just like Oasis they talked themselves up into being the big band they've become, rather than their output doing it for them.

I said that Kasabian would succeed in doing just that after I first saw them (2002, was it?), while also saying that their content was simply a rehashed medley of far better bands. The public are stoooopid!

Kasabian aren't all bad tho. They put most other 'modern' bands to shame when playing live ... which says more about those other bands than it does Kasabian.

If The Libs play Wireless you can be sure that they'll be contractually tied to doing just that and nothing else. As it is they'd have big difficulties selling that one show.

Possibly. I did just get a reminder email from 10 club reminding me to keep my membership up to date (even though it doesn't run out until May). They tend to send these emails out a few weeks before they announce some dates. The new ticketing system they've been trailing recently makes me think they might be planning some shows soon, though at a guess I think a US tour is probably the most likely scenario.

Damn, that's the most elitist thing I've read in quite a while :)
All that really gets to prove is that marketing works - as shown by the vast amounts spent on marketing everything every day.

Kasabian merely marketed themselves from the stage, as other do - The Hives are another example where the guff they speak far outweighs the performance they give.

^This. The fact is that Arctics, Kasabian, Muse, Foo Fighters, Coldplay and the Killers are pretty much the biggest bands in the world at the moment, and in 30 years time we'll all be wondering why new bands coming through aren't as good as 'back in the day'. Music was great in the 60's and 70's, its still pretty good now. So cheer up!

The reasons i'm an arctic monkeys fan, is because when I was younger around 2005 I heard their first ep/songs list and I was immediately sucked in. I loved their first album "Whatever people say I am, That's What i'm not", and it's still probably my favourite album. Favourite Worst Nightmare was great, it's such an easy listening album, theres not many albums that I can play from start to finish and enjoy every time. Surprisingly it's my least favourite. Humbug is so underrated it hurts, it's an amazing album! Suck it and see is such an amazing effort, I hate to stereotype but it's very rare for a band to bring out one of their best albums 6 years into their career.

Personally, just because I am a fan... to see them live would be perfect and I can not wait for their headline set. (If they play). Being a fan since I was 10 so yeah! aha!

Still can't believe that 2005 was 8 years ago aha!

i really need to give Humbug a listen again. literally haven't listened to it since before their Leeds Festival headline set in 2009 when i was trying to familiarise myself with as many of the songs as possible, knowing they were gonna play a lot of them. at the time i thought it was dull as dishwater with a few standouts (Crying Lightning, Cornerstone, Pretty Visitors, and Dangerous Animals being my favourite despite a lot of people saying it was the worst) and i thought that was the general view of it, but reading these boards, everybody's opinion of it seems to be drastically different
