2013 Headliners

i really need to give Humbug a listen again. literally haven't listened to it since before their Leeds Festival headline set in 2009 when i was trying to familiarise myself with as many of the songs as possible, knowing they were gonna play a lot of them. at the time i thought it was dull as dishwater with a few standouts (Crying Lightning, Cornerstone, Pretty Visitors, and Dangerous Animals being my favourite despite a lot of people saying it was the worst) and i thought that was the general view of it, but reading these boards, everybody's opinion of it seems to be drastically different

All that really gets to prove is that marketing works - as shown by the vast amounts spent on marketing everything every day.

Kasabian merely marketed themselves from the stage, as other do - The Hives are another example where the guff they speak far outweighs the performance they give.

In addition Carl is off being a film star and doing his record so I think any Libertines stuff would be probably off the table unless Peter wins the lottery to paythe label back the advance.

I happen to know you're very wrong about that - Carl would love to do Libs again, and would drop anything to do it. He's said this very recently (I'm not sure if that's something in the public domain or not).

Other stuff I've heard (tho it's gone quiet on it, so maybe it's not happening cos something has changed) is that the Libs had taken a booking for show this summer in a country that's not the UK (I know more details than that).

Really strangely out of the blue, Babyshambles have announced a new record, with Stereophonics drummer. The label have been really forcing and pushing Peter to actually put something out for a while and seem to be the driving force behind him actually doing something, because I'd imagine they actually want a return for their money.

Shambles have said they will probably record in June and I wouldn't be surprised if the label force them to do it over the summer, effectively stopping any Libertines activity. I don't know where (you'll probably tell me it was on here) but I'd heard The Libs might well be supporting the Roses at Finsbury Park. Is that complete rubbish?
I've no idea if it's true, but I have a feeling that it might have been on here that you read that, as I'm pretty sure I saw that too.

If I'm remembering rightly, it was debunked in some way - perhaps even by me, with reference to the rumours of a Wireless show that I've long heard about (but am currently thinking might well be wrong).

Wrong that is was debunked or wrong that it defo won't happen?

the 'wrong' was a suggestion that the rumoured Wireless show might be completely wrong.

I'd heard that the Libs taken a booking for a show overseas, which then had them looking for other shows to do, and that Wireless in 2013 was one they would do. Five months(ish) down the line I've heard nothing more about any of that, while having heard what Carl has said lately - which doesn't have any hint of those supposed shows. So it seems that what i'd heard about those shows could well be wrong.

Having seen both Kasabian and Arctics, there's no doubting that Kasabian are the better live act, their Brixton Academy gig last year was fantastic. Plus I think they'd appreciate headlining much more, but as others said they need another record before they do.

I pray the libertines get together this year, but with a new 'Shambles album out this year and the fact Pete no showed at 3 of his last 4 uk dates (albeit one was rescheduled), I'm not holding my breath.

Kasabian have put on an excellent show the last couple of times I saw them. Brixton was especially good. I they'd do fine in all respects other than 'looking like a good booking' for Glastonbury.

As for the Hackney weekend gig - I think some perpsective needs to be given. That was a BBC1 Extra crowd. Very different from a Kasabian crowd, or a Glastonbury crowd.

Neil - In that article it also said something about Rolling Stones doing shows at Olympic Stadium this summer. How much is there to back this up? Because doing shows to 80,000 people (probably more because of standing) doesn't rule them out entirely, but makes Glastonbury a little bit of a pointless show, financially speaking

Off the top of my head, I reckon non-fanboys would recognise the following songs at a festival:

Arctic Monkeys

View from the afternoon

....Dancefloor

......San Francisco

Mardy Bum

A Certain Romance

When the Sun Goes Down

Brianstorm

Teddy Picker

Fluorescent Adolescent

R U Mine

Kasabian

Shoot the Runner

Me Plus One

Underdog

Fire

Days Are Forgotten

Empire

Club Foot

L.S.F

Reason is Treason

Where did all the love go

Basically roughly the same amount of somgs, but Kasabian will play most if not all of the above, whereas casual listeners only really know the songs off first two Arctic's albums. Songs from Humbug or Suck it and See are hardly ever played on radio.

FWIW, I quite like the arctics' music, but Kasabian seem to put on a better live show. Either are big enough to headline and both are equally likely to absolutely nail it, or fall flat on their feet.
