Headliners?

Some of the posts on the Beyonce situation read like a party political broadcast for Glastonbury.

It won't go down well, its not a good thing and and I have no problem saying that if she does turn out to be the main headliner on Sunday I will be gutted. Then you have Coldplay, I mean is this just the go-to group for Glasto when nothing else can be found ? Why don't they ask them to play two nights ? It smacks to me like the eggs where all in The Stones basket which has been dropped and we end up suffering with the current situation.

Glasto is a special festival but that doesn't give them the right to mess the fans around with indulgent silly crap like Beyonce playing out the festival. Looking at other festivals going on around the world this summer some of the line-ups are incredible and its not a case of me forsaking Glasto because of one act. A festival is a sum of all its parts with Glasto being far far stronger than any other festival discounting the music but that doesn't give it the right to serve mediocrity on the other side. It usually doesn't happen but at the moment I am not very confident and really sad about the way things are shaping up.

I wish people would get over the Headliner thing. It's the same every year. They divide opinion, but so does almost every act on the bill.

If you don't like them, go and see someone else, simple. There's so much other stuff going on.

I've not bought a ticket on the basis of the headliners - I actually couldn't really care. There will be more than enough to float my boat - and plenty of new stuff I discover while i'm there.

Just enjoy the festival.

Well you're a bit of a tit aren't you.

It's been said before by others and I echo it now. Beyonce is not for me, nor as it happens are the Libs if the that rumour comes to fruition. However because I have more than one functioning brain cell I know I'll find something and even if not then either of those will still be a great show. I know this as I know people who have raved about both and also the Eavii would not have booked them if they weren't confident of a great show - particularly on the last night for 2 years.

I wasn't going to have a go at the above post and just leave it at your a tit but I will say this. Coldplay only seem like the go-to band because they are rumoured EVERY FLIPPING YEAR!!! Just like sodding Radiohead, Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers and at least one of the previous year's headliners (anyone else noticed that?). I'm a massive fan of all of them but never even read the rumours as I know they will not be true (except under conditions like this year).

My advice to anyone wanting a truly epic live experience, see both U2 and Coldplay. They are as great as both Blur and Muse in a live environment and we know the rep they have round these parts. If you don't then go to Shangri-La, Strummerville, the Dance Village whatever you want to get your rocks off.

In short, stop f*cking bitching about Beyonce, there are over 1000 acts over 5 days at this ruddy festival - If you are going to get all hormonal because some 'rap guy's girlfriend' is headlining then don't bother paying off your balance in April because you just don't get it.

The proposed headliners confuse me alot. U2 I can understand since they didn't play last year. Coldplay have played shit loads of times, surely wouldn't Pulp be a more popular choice since they have just reunited and are also Glastonbury legends. But Beyonce really does confuse me, to book a mainstream RNB/pop act seems a bit off the remit really. I know the argument is that the festival is meant to be for everyone and i'm sure some people on here will like her addition (not many that I've read and my mates have no intention of seeing her). If Beyonce can be booked then why cant we get a metal band to headline over on the other stage on Sunday night?

has anybody got a 'headliner rant' template i could use? there must be one about somewhere what with all these identikit posts that keep appearing.

you know the kind of thing... i'd like to include bits about the unsuitability of a headliner, how my favourite band should be playing top of the bill and how the festival is generally going downhill.

maybe it can incluude a bit about 'exploring the site' as an attempt to imply that im not really that bothered who is on, although inside i am livid.

*polite applause*

People seem to forget that every year they trot out some amazing acts to close every stage, meaning that at the very least there will be a top act on both other and jazzw...erm...west holts. Not to mention JP and avalon (last year closing with Ash and Gomez respectively).

I don't like Beyonce's music personally, or to be more specific, don't even know it, I don't listen to that kind of mainstream manufactured american pop/r+b nonsense...am I bothered that she is playing? Not a bit.

However, what I can say is that AT LEAST 60,000 people will be having a great time watching Beyonce and this will not detract from my enjoyment of the festival one bit. In fact, if people who like that kind of music are catered for, in my eyes, that is brilliant and an example of the diversity and forward looking that glasto has ALWAYS been all about.

I can't believe [insert band here] are headlining. they are just not suitable for Glastonbury at all. I think that [insert completely implausible band here eg Led Zep/Beatles/Elvis or generic fanboy band eg Radiohead / Libertines] should headline instead they are definitely worth it. I would rather [remove my own kidneys / cut my ears off / rape a badger / suck off jonny vegas / other - delete as applicable or use, if other please specify] than watch [first mentioned band(s)].

[for next part please choose one of the possible endings]

1. I am going to [sell / burn / eat / compost / other] my ticket cause this is a load of sh*t, f*ck you Eavii!

2. I guess I will find something else as there is plenty going on and there is always something worth seeing

3. other - [insert angsty bullshit ridden burst of anger despite the fact you are actually giddy about the festival and will probably end up seeing the first mentioned band but just wanted to appear tough and cool on an internet forum]

How's that? laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

OK - I'll admit it I'm not happy with the headliners.

If the headliners are not exciting you it's not normally an issue due to the rest of the stages but I thought last year was pretty weak in general and so did the folks I go with (many of which are not bothering this year).

I'm hoping for acts like Jimmy Cliff on West Holts and new stuff on the JP stage to wow me... 'fraid I won't go again if the lineup is as weak as 2010.

Oh dear... I think the point you're making is that choosing headliners is difficult. They need a body of work (not a one or two LP flash in the pan) and to appeal to the masses.. AND will do it from under £1m ... I guess Glasto is running out of these!

OK I'll have a crack though!

Fri - Prince

Sat - Bowie

Sun - Stones (not a fan but it would have been a cool booking!)
