Really????

That surprises me about you. I'm a big early queen fan but I won't be anywhere near that karaoke gig. And i really enjoyed the Rogers show.

Wouldn't have thought this would be your cup of tea at all.

It's not my cup of tea at all! I'm taking my mum as a christmas present.

I am quite curious as to what it will be like though. It'll be hard to keep an open mind.

I am envious of your plant gig

I'd have loved to have seen them back in the day, not so sure now though

They're still pretty decent live, saw them a few years back at Hard Rock Hell and they put on a good show. Obviously not the same without Seb but for a relatively cheap night out (£12 a ticket) it's worth the effort.

Looking forward to seeing a room full of 40/50 year old bald blokes singing "We are the youth gone wild!".

Steve Cropper and The Animals at The Globe in Cardiff next Wednesday with Mrs GH plus daughter.

I think there's only one original Animal left, but a mix of Animals stuff plus some of Cropper's classics (Dock of the Bay, Knock on Wood, Midnight Hour etc) promises to be a good night.

I've got a load of gigs coming up at the moment:

Nils Frahm - Monday

Caribou/Four Tet @ The Warehouse Project - Friday

Future Islands / Zola Jesus / East India Youth - Saturday

Then;

British Sea Power

La Roux
Perfume Genius

Sharon Van Etten

An absolute glut of gigs :) One of the advantages of being single! :lol:

where are you seeing british sea power. I really like a lot of their stuff. It always irks me a bit that they never got bigger, in comparison to some of the shitty bands who did.

Warwick Arts Institute in Coventry. They're doing a tour where they play with a different local brass band each night. We've got the Jaguar-Landrover brass band I think. It should be really good to see the songs reworked live.

Twilight sad playing a local boozer in April. Tickets 13 quid on sale tomorrow. Am thinking of going just on reputation of them that I've heard plus I like the venue Am I mental? Reckon it'll sell out quick as only holds about two hundred people so gonna have to get tickets as soon as on sale.

I know zero songs. Gonna buy new album this week. Where else to start?

Convince me I'm doing the right thing or warn me off.

Go!

You're making a good choice here! I can't stress enough how great Fourteen Autumns And Fifteen Winters is, one of my all time favourites, just excellent indie rock with big melodic bittersweet choruses, punctuated by walls of noise. James Graham's distinctive Scottish accent when he sings adds loads of flavour to the proceedings, I'd say that's what grabbed the ear of most of the people I've reccomended them to (ie. everybody I know). Tough choice, but this my favourite track;

I also encourage you to give No One Can Ever Know a listen, here they go fully electronic, and pretty gothic. It's a very uncompromising record, will definitely command your full undivided attention from start to finish. Some fans were turned off by this one, maybe due to the lack of guitars, but I'd count it as my personal favourite as a full album. This track never fails to pull me in, just fascinating in every way, I think I hear new things in it every time;

Word of warning if you buy a physical copy of this album; I didn't like the mix on the vinyl pressing, I couldn't exactly tell you why, but I always play the CD rather than LP. Probably best to ask somebody who knows what they're talking about in matter such as these.

The new album is pretty great, from the one listen I've given it so far (I'm off to give it a second spin now). From my first impression, it sounds like pretty much a blend of the 1st and 3rd albums I just went over, although doesn't quite hit the heights either of them do. It has been getting great reviews left and right though, so what do I know? Love this single;

They're a brilliant live band, I don't think I've ever seen a frontman get so caught up in a show as James does, their fierce fanbase means that you'll see them get a hell of a reception at pretty much any of their own headline shows. They do have a couple of live recordings out, one from the early days called Killed My Parents And Hit The Road, which is still a pretty good taster of what to expect from the live shows. There's also one they recorded live at Paisley Abbey with the Royal National Scottish Orchestra,the arrangements of the songs are changed a lot here, but I go back to this quite a bit, great alt versions of loads of their tracks. Personally I'll be booking a ticket to go down to Bristol to see them in April, probably either Liverpool or York too.

Maybe a daft question, but why Bristol before Liverpool? Surely Liverpool's just up the road.

You ever been to Liverpool?

Bristol gig's on a Tuesday night, Tuesday and Wednesday are may days off, so that's a weekend away for me, and I've got family in Bristol. Liverpool's also a Tuesday, but not far away so I could do it on a work night anyway, and York because I could potentially find myself living and working in York next year (fingers crossed).

    • Do you think they'll release today's cupra pulse lineup?
    • I had a great time yesterday and came to the conclusion that everytime (or, more accurately, both times) I didn't have a great time at Primavera, it was water-related. Either there was too much of it (Thursday 2026) or there wasn't enough (Thursday 2022, week 1).
