He’s definitely playing Perfect 10. Not actually a bad sentiment TBF.

I was thinking the same. Surely the song is about loving people no matter their size? That's OK isn't it or has that been banned now?

Am I right in saying the female half of that song is about willy size?

Probably. But yeah that’s the idea behind the lyrics.

They really need to switch Janelle and Avril's slots - there will genuinely be 100k+ people migrating from the Pyramid to the Other in that hour. Shania will have the biggest crowd of the weekend - she's had a real revival given the similarities to Taylor.

I would guess Janelle will have literally 25% of Avril's crowd size.

Gutted Janelle and Avril clash but like most I will be picking Avril

Hard disagree.  Shania will IMO be the smallest legend crowd for years and the Pyramid "faithful" won't move.  Plus, I don't think Avril is the draw many people seem to think she is. There will be a migration, but not an exodus.

Hailing back to the Gossip chat, it's an odd one.  I wouldn't have known where to place them.  Were never that huge.  Massive gap.  New album to mixed reviews.  I'd have gone Woodsies, but definitely not headline against the competition.

Nah Shania will have a bigger crowd than Jeff Lynne in 2016. She'll get a bigger crowd too than most of the acts on the Pyramid over the weekend except the headliners. She only has about 3 songs people know, but people will turn up for those songs.

I think Cyndi Lauper is going to a have a big crowd - similar number of hits to Shania (girls just want to have fun, time after time and true colours) and doesn’t clash with any well known artists/ bands (at least none I have heard of, but I am old). Shania does clash with the last bit of James set. Personally I will be giving Shania a miss, but will be going back to the 80s with Cyndi.

Just looking at the next band on after Cyndi - Keane. Keane clash with The Last Dinner Party, Corrine Bailey Rae and Fat White Family.

Probably. I doubt you'll ever find a man who's upset by those lines though. And I'd be surprised if you found a woman upset by the other lines

Added bit about women not being bothered either

I would guess Janelle will have literally 25% of Avril's crowd size.

Here's the stats

Janelle's top 3 Youtube video's view count:

Yoga 71m
I Like That 50m
Make Me Feel 35m

Avril's top 3 Youtube video's view count:

Complicated 687m
Girlfriend 658m
When You're Gone 532m

To add to this, Avril doesn't have a single video with less than 100m views in her top ten. Janelle has one on 400k. Both artists have videos in their top tens that have been on the platform for 14 years, so a similar enough time frame. On top of this, Avril's 2022 album has arguably outperformed Janelle's 2023 album on the platform too.

It definitely 'feels' like they're billed the wrong way around to me.

HOWEVER. I'd prefer to see Avril on Other, I dunno, something about that kind of music just 'feels' better on that stage, there always seems to be a much better atmosphere. I'm sure there's enough happening on site, for the many different tastes, to mean it will be just fine. But you're right, that walk between stages is going to be laborious.

Significant risk of a dirty look, and/or a tut from the seat campers at the back of the tent 😄 i saw Art Garfunkel headlining there a few years back, and it was great - but there are a lot of acoustic only types who seemingly stay there for the day and expect their blankets and view to remain as unruffled by the headliner as it was for the sleepy 11am opener. Id get there about 15 mins beforehand and you'll most probably breeze straight in

Can anyone shed any light on what the acoustic tent is like for headliners?

Fancy Gipsy Kings on the Sunday but not enough to be there a long time before it starts.

Bad for sound overspill from the Pyramid, though Gipsy Kings may be a bit louder than the more acoustic headliners. Poor Rickie Lee Jones finished early last year as the sound bleed was just ridiculous.

Shania has more familiar songs than people think.  The titles may not ring bells - but Dont Be Stupid You Know I Love You and I'm Gonna Getcha Good will ring bells once folk who were around then hear them.  Plus there's also a whole generation that grew up with their parents rinsing Come On Over and will know that entire album back to front.

Coupled with the fact that she seems to have dropped a possible hint about Harry Styles and that she's not up against any real competition the place will be swarming. Different if she was clashing with Avril, but she isn't.

Shania Twain will get a really big crowd. A few big singalong hits and generally a very well known name. They’ve done well with the competition this year in that people who have zero interest in the cheesy singalong full stop have plenty of strong options but not enough to drag many away (James may mean a few aren’t there for the full Shania set but that’s all)

No, the song has a nice sentiment to it.

Do people think Skream and Benga will be hard to get into on the Thursday?

Yes. I’m planning on heading over that way an hour or so earlier and if it already looks too busy just giving up and heading elsewhere. Insane of them to stick them on so early with f**k all major competition tbh.

That’s what I’m thinking! Fancy going real early and getting a good spot.

Definitely get there early! Last time he played strummerville people were climbing through the trees to get in, the fencing nearly got pushed over, I thought they would have to shut it down.

His wife (Guise) is playing before him, this could add to the crowd, I'd get there for 2pm if you want a good spot.

What was the Harry hint? Place will implode if he comes out with her.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
