Oh, a festival that has artists youre wishing would play glasto? Yeah, such a bad thing. And it wont rain at least. And when its hot theres air conditioned tents cause they care about peoples safety from the heat. And they have good sound and production values? So when people are yapping in the back it doesnt matter? Yep, the worst thing to have.

This continuous and relentless comparing of the two is exhausting, the fact of the matter is they are two completely different beasts. As someone who has grown up on British festivals what I’ve seen of it is a turn off. Opinions are like ars*holes we all have them

I know you hold fire until everything is ironclad, but you could make an advent calendar out of it. A new act every week from Christmas until a poster drop in April.

I’ve probably mentioned this before; I go to an airshow in Fairford, Gloucestershire each year. Unlike most, smaller airshows, it’s a really big affair with aircraft attending from all over the world. Like Glasto here, there’s a lot of anticipation about what’s going to attend. From February onwards there’s an announcement on a Thursday when they drop three or four of the participants. It’s a great system as you see the line up form over time, and maintains excitement for the aviation geeks. I wish Glasto would do something similar.

I don't think I've heard you say before, but absolutely. Great tactic.

Essentially, it does. Just starts a little later. From mid April onwards we get a stage/area every few days.

One to mull - which artist is going to walk away from their slot having won more neutrals over? Imagine on the box, it will be Rodrigo, but could buy The 1975 managing it in the field itself if Healy keeps himself firmly on course.

In honesty, if you're not really into either it might not be as great a "turn on" for many as you'd expect. I dont mind the 1975 but wont be watching and i love the two O'Rod albums but cant see much of the "older generation" getting too excited

I personally think that if people come in with no preconception - O'Rod will win over more neutral viewers. Her performances and songs are top level.

Yeah - she's not going to put a foot wrong.  It's hers to boot the ball into the goal.

Unlikely, the people who dislike The 1975 are so entrenched in their viewpoint I suspect the majority wouldn't even admit it if the band did impress them. They've become the "cool to hate" band of the 2010s, as this forum so often proves.

It’s a brilliant event, long time since I’ve been sadly

If we're looking at a sub-headliner trio of Paramore, Pulp and Biffy Clyro then that is probably one of the strongest sub headliner trios since god knows when? 3 acts that in my opinion could have, or could still, headline in recent years. Biffy past their peak of commercial success now I'd say, but you could've put them in as a headliner 5-10 years ago and nobody would've batted an eyelid. What's happened with the Chapell Roan talk, is she coming in as 3rd down rather than Sub? A sunday of Chapell Roan, Pulp and O-Rod would keep the locals quite happy I reckon.

This is what makes Glastonbury so great, and why people unnecesarilly over exagerate the importance of the headliner trio, we're looking at a seriously stacked line up even if the headliner trio isn't to everyones liking. Hats off if they pull of that sub trio as well as the talk of Chapell Roan and Mumford secret set

Will concur that isn't a poor reading. They were divisive when they started, they're divisive now. Don't think the naysayers will be won over, but reckon enough neutrals who end up drifting by may be pleasantly surprised.

If they hadn't taken 2015 off, remain convinced they would have been touted as both an initial replacement for Prince on the Sunday, rather than needing The Who to can some dates in France, and after that, genuinely viewed as a "guitar-band" like-for-like who could replace Foo Fighters.

I think they may well have felt Ellipsis was going to confirm them as a multi-night arena pull, or even a stadium act. They'd smashed R+L in 2013. It didn't seem implausible.

Fond, vivid memories. One visit, c1994. 8 years old, watching the Volcan Bomber circulate behind us, waiting for the Nimrod to finish its display. Then it came screaming over us. Makes the hairs on my neck stand up just thinking about it.

I was over the moon when I saw Neil Young was headlining. Purely for selfish reasons as I was hoping he would play. However the more I think about it, the more I am not sure he is the right choice to engage a huge crowd as the Saturday headliner.

Agreed, was fully expecting O-Rod for Saturday. It's been a bit of a divisive booking, and that was even before the scathing post about the festival. I think the booking is a nod to Michael, and something for his bucket list so I can look past any "faults" I might find in the booking

Someone should say to them about potentially switching Neil Young and Charli XCX around.

Oh yes please.

I'm worried that as things stand we only have around 2-4 weeks of solid Charli XCX crowd size debates left in us before the poster drops and the topic potentially gets lost in the shuffle.
