2025 Headliners

Would be in keeping with the moment by the look of it, given 9 of the top 10 most streamed songs in the UK last year on Spotify were by US artists, and even then, the exception was Hozier.

The interesting thing is that the most american lineup theyve had recently  was 2022 when you had Kendrick and Billie but the undercard was also very american. My gf's gripe of that lineup was just simply that. She wanted it to be more british. But covid was def a factor and more u.s. groups wanted to get back out and play stuff. And im sure glasto wanted the american artists cause they were avail on top of that.

Yeah I'm aware there's more to music than Spotify, much as they try to think they're the be-all-and-end-all.

But yeah, there's a certain vibe of an American pop invasion being in vogue, akin to film or TV as well. Maybe there's a budding British star that can grab the bull by the horns waiting for their moment.

Raye would be it right now. Next album can be huge if the new single is a banger. This all cycles anyway. And Charli could be a headliner if she took a few years off too. Myles Smith can get up there too eventually. Of course Sam Fender is in a weird spot and who knows what made him not be a headliner this year. Same goes for Fred.

Regardless of whether she’s big enough, Brit factor is why I think charli on pyramid is a possibility if there is anything to Rihanna (or other American superstar) rumours for third slot - esp if o-rod is locked

Safety concerns should be more of a factor. But it would bd weird as hell if she subbed Neil Young. Pre 1975 wouldnt be too crazy.

It's clear that whoever used to be in charge of safety for Glastonbury has been purged by a DOGE style efficiency committee.

By putting Charli XCX in a field that can only hold 80 thousand odd people it seems clear they're trying to create a Love Parade style incident that's then used to jeopardise the license.

I think we can now call the Charli XCX booking what it is: sabotage.

Wake up.

Going for a British headliner makes sense, but just like with female headliners, there's likely to be a year where it won't be doable.

Less so. A new British headliner, perhaps.

But there's more than enough who have done it before who would drop everything to go again at the top of the bill, even if it meant breaking a hiatus.

Wake up.

They'll be putting Nick Cave on the Pyramid next, when he would need something akin to Copacabana to house the masses. Reckless.

I know Raye's around - she's playing the British Grand Prix concerts, as is Sam Fender. I do wonder if Fender prioritised his own shows, which are at quite a large scale tbf. The rumour was Fred went from on to not on, right?

I do know 2022 was a weird year where it felt like 2/3 years of festival line-ups at once, if only because it was. Maybe the novelty of US acts being more available than they were in 2020/21 helps.

That would be random.

Glastonbury can have such tonal jumps tbf. Muse having Scissor Sisters as a sub in 2010 felt random, although actually looked like fun. Tame Impala as the sub before Adele in 2016 was random, although I'm not sure what would have been appropriate for either one. Biffy Clyro as the sub to Ed Sheeran in 2017 was proper tonal whiplash.

Had to fight for my life getting out of the pit after Tame Impala before Adele.

Those Adele fans were bloodthirsty.

It's safer and more logical to have a subbing act that caters for a similar audience to the headliner. Better for everyone all round. Paul Weller into The Who a few years back was perfect, for example.

If they booked Rihanna over Olivia there would be less reason for sure to bother over this year.

I imagine Rihanna will go for the payday of her own shows over glastonbury? her new album is meant to be 'less commercial/radio friendly'

I think she would draw the biggest crowd of the weekend

Not sure if I'm remembering the order correctly but I'm sure I did Wolf Alice > The Last Shadow Puppets > Tame Impala, before leaving before Adele

One of my favourites days of the festival

Madness between Wolf Alice and TLSP too if you were there for them? I only know that cos I had a pretty identical run aside from sneaking out to catch Art Garfunkel before Tame Impala

Yeah I know that but seems odd not to announce at the same time, was hoping to see him with a mate who’s another Neil Young fanatic like myself that ain’t got tickets for Glastonbury. He’s desperate to see him so going to Dublin which rules me out because of Glastonbury. I can’t ask him to wait just in case BST gets announced down the line, I suspect there’ll be others doing the same thing booking flights, hotels etc

There was a lot of changeover there. It was Editors-Pet Shop Boys on the Other at the same time and after the subs a lot of people moved. PSB was pretty quiet at the start and filled up dramatically.

You'd think so, yes. Foals into Muse or Royal Blood into Arctic Monkeys are one that fit for recent years. There's probably other better examples but those just came off the top of my head.

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
