Hmmm - probaby over thought this.....   But I wonder if the announcement of an Older act at this stage perhaps cements the fact its three younger headliners.   We know the early announcements are more typically for the lets just say more experienced act.   Not sure if im going any wear with this.

Given the legend act is typically old(er) I don't think it holds any weight for this yrs headliners.

I think the rumoured 1975, Rodrigo and Fender headliner list is more likely with this announcement. It would be a comparatively weak set of headliners and so adding some more 'legends' into the mix softens the criticism that they'll inevitably get should those be the headliners. The rumoured Neil Young in the Leonard Cohen spot is also making me lean this way now.

sorry if it was not clear i was implying they do not normally announce the legend slot a least not this early - being the implication of the younger headliners. Nothing to do with the actual age of the legend - more there notoriety

Concur here. Think Rod - not just any old Legends Slot pick but a former headliner outright - being picked speaks to a trio of younger-skewing headliners.

In 2020 they announced Diana Ross early, McCartney was slated to headline.

In 2019 the early announcement was Stormzy and in 2024 I believe it was Billie.

Im not sure what has happened previously has any bearings - as this is to my knowledge the first Former headliner that has been announced as a legend slot? At least I can not think of anyothers.  Which is why I think its cements the three younger actual headliners

He subbed on the Sunday for The Verve. It's not really 'Leonard Cohen slot' - more an example of someone who was old and not not especially relevant subbing on the Sunday before a headliner for a completely different genre. He was a bit of a wild pick at the time (which turned out to be inspired, he was incredible). When it was announced I was disappointed, and I now look back on it as my favourite Glastonbury set.

Thats what I am hoping for. I'd take NY wherever he is slotted. Actually would love to see him headline Other at same time as O-Rod

Nope. Gonna be a party.

Like Robbie Williams wouldn't have been?

Many of Rod's big tracks are slow ballads. Good luck trying to hide behind a band with his current voice. Christ on a bike.

Oh well, excited to see what they put up against him or go for a lovely final Sunday wander before seeing Fender smash it out the park on the evening!

I really don't think you go to an act like Rod Stewart (or many of the legend acts frankly) with the intention of chin-strokingly admiring the vocal talents - as Superscally says, you go there for a bit of a party, a sing-song and just to have a good time.

I'd be surprised if it's a controversial opinion to think that a bad voice doesn't actually have that much bearing on that. Look at Shania last year - do you really think there were many people there standing round wondering why she sounded a bit wobbly? Of course not - it's supposed to be a bit of fun and that's what it'll be, regardless of the quality of his voice these days - you're just overthinking it.

I'm giving my opinion, rather than overthinking it.

Whilst I agree with the majority of your comments, I'm fully aware of the party and singalong generated by the Legend Slot having attended stacks of them.

A better voice certainly contributes to it being a greater experience in my view - Lionel was phenomenal and was still a TOP performer at the time. As was Kylie. Diana Ross had a world class band to accompany some of the greatest Mowtown tracks of all time (so her waining voice was very much supported by that). I was pretty gutted by Shania. I was a massive fan of hers growing up. The performance pales in comparison to other Legend slots.

I've nothing against Rod. He has some cracking tracks and I know people will have a great time. I'm personally disappointed as I think it could have been a much better performer, but as I said, I can just explore!
