We were at the back for similar reasons and to ensure a quick getaway as well.  I think we were good where we were. I didn't need to see the whites of his eyes.

watching it back on Iplayer, looks like the 'whole' crowd were up for it anyway, looks like folks are dancing even under the flags and beyond???

The step up from here would be the O2.

He’s big, but he’s not in the same ball park as Beyoncé, Coldplay and Harry Styles.

Nobody is saying this but he could clearly sell one of the smaller stadiums in London pretty well / out.

He isn't charging stadium prices tho of course but he's just shift 40k at ally pally and could probably do another 40k i reckon

Gibson says this every time & it's simply not true.

Four Tet had a raffle for tickets at Ally Pally & pretty sure it was limited to 2x.

Other bands have done shows where your credit card is the ticket, to avoid touts.

Fred, genuinely does as little as possible to avoid his tickets ending up in the hands of re-sellers. He's too addicted to seeing "sold out in 60s" & the amount of hype, frenzy & FOMO he builds in his community.

I know touts will still get a hand on tickets, one way or another, but at least try to pretend you care about the people who still haven't managed to get to one of your shows.

he could just announce more shows but then he'd run out of steam

big part of his hype has been its impossible to see him, these ally pally shows will put a good dent in it though

What I meant was, a promoter won’t let him go from Ally Pally to stadiums. There’s a pathway, which has The O2 in between.

Of course he’s popular enough to do the numbers, I’m not disputing that.

If they think he can sell them then they will put him there - the stadiums are all ran by AEG / LN anyway ??

Plenty of acts skip the O2 nowadays, Sam Fender for instance (and so they should, its an appalling venue!)

Loved his set but not a fan of this sort of commercialism off the back of it

Things like this are as old as time - Foos did it too this year and possibly Elton as well?

Its just a football shirt with some small glasto badges on, most people will just throw those in the bin anyway

Were they not ultra limited edition, sold out within minutes, cost £80 and don’t even ship until September, as of that sale there were only a handful in existence that his crew and a couple of fans had, what bit will people be throwing in the bin?

They're pre order, as in they don't exist yet... Which kind of leans into somebody's point here about using manufactured scarcity to make something more popular... Great marketing.

I mean, how can they be sold out, if they're pre order? The only way is if they're a very limited run...

Why a very limited run if they're not even beginning to be shipped until Sept? To keep that 'scarcity' train running...

Yeah I get all that, my point was nobody will be throwing anything off them in the bin:

Yeh I know... I'm agreeing with you lol...

As in pointing out that these are definitely not the ones the crew and family wore, that would otherwise end up in the bin. They are a limited run of the same design that do not begin shipping until Sept.

My little rant was just my annoyance at the fact that rather than give everybody that was there a chance to own one, they've chosen 'marketing' over looking after their fans and restricted the numbers to keep the hype train rolling...

So then he shouldnt have announced gigs after the festival. Same for Astley and a few others.

Foos made special Churnups shirts for their set. Are you against that too?

are artists not allowed to earn a living? They have to conform to your version of capitalism?

Didn't know they use this type of marketing... Never had the slightest interest in their products...

So you're telling me that they only do limited releases and their clothes are hard to get?

Wow, in that case, I guess I need a supreme collection **Goes off to buy**

🤣

They sold a branded brick for $30 that sold out in minutes and then was selling for thousands on the resale market. People are idiots when it comes to this kind of stuff, but in terms of marketing, it works.

    • They are going to have Blink 182 for sure, early June upto around Werchter weekend I'd say for them. Two of Sweden Rock,  Greenfield and RFP are going to miss out.
    • I've come across a few this weekend saying Deftones aren't big enough for Download.   I would recommend b&b hotel hbf the night before....cheap, comfortable and very decent. Within 10 minutes from the station and a tram stop outside to jump on...all travel is free during the festival time as well with a kombi. Lidl is very good and cheap I can't lie....€6 for a chair with carey handle, €20 with a bag too...you can work that out yourself.   If you camp, get up at 5am and go to the queue....literally don't question it as now I know.     The travel wise part is easy when you get the hang of it and I've never had an easier exit from a festival today tbh. We were camped in the turn left section but past the registration and to get water you have to come right out.   Opening up an exit through he camp at least by Friday morning when everyobe is there would be much better but you csnt walk through general if you're green and sonon.   I think the issue for me probably too is I have never taken like a mutliple litre water too, I've always done a 6 pack water from like poundland lol but you definitely need it. I had one shower that was cold lol   Talking of getting into the front, Volbeat was the only easy one, for Maiden and especially Linkin Park if you weren't in the queue for it by at least the last quarter ot Architects you had no hope....it was shocking. I do like orbit to sit down. I had to decide to sack off Within Temptation too or no chance.   Second stage biggest gripe is the faff of walking all the way round when VIP or whatever it is literally get access to each bit. I did read tbh before going people though RIP/Ring was turning too much the wrong way.   Also as a side note, caught some of Limp Bizkit last night too and they are not headliner but any distance at all. Yes they pull a crowd...they would do with LP finished but on the grand scale its a super weak booking. Stop, start for video recordings all the way through a headline set?, 1hr 15 minutes and you can't play for that time. I'm so glad they were not chosen to headline main.   On another thing, if RIP played it right they'll get GC and Avril to sub/second stage headline on the Blink day.   Toilets and cleanliness is a big plus I will say that.
    • Any of the likes of Keo, Basht. and Cardinals could all fit in here.  Although they’re the sort of bands that could fit many of the stages at Glastonbury
    • Glasto loves a come back act - how about the Rapture?
    • Yeah mentioned in the park thread but feel more Woodsies to me
